The usual cache is cube, 3 meters on a side, of heavily-reinforced concrete; a short 'neck' extends upward a half-meter or so
from the top. The neck ends at a stainless-steel circular hatch 1.22 meters in diameter, secured by six five-sided 'security'
bolt heads, and with lots of weatherproofing sealant.
The main use for 5-sided bolt heads outside of the Project is on fire hydrants.
The interior of the cache is 2 meters on a side, with a plastic liner. There is no power system or refrigeration; a nitrogen
tank with an automatic pressure release value, and a bucket of dessicant material, are fitted in an attempt to maintain a non-
corrosive atmosphere within the cache. Items are wrapped up in transparent polyethylene bags.
Note that there are some caches of different shapes and sizes -- some of the oldest caches were pretty much custom built.
Also, Science and MARS teams have access to some larger caches with more and different contents. For example, there are
MARS caches with 81mm mortar rounds, 90mm cannon ammo, TOW missiles, various missiles and rockets, etc.. There are
some caches with equipment for the "non-standard" vehicle teams (hovercraft, for example).
Boots are men's size 8, 9, 10, 10.5, 11, and 12.
Stuff never found in caches:
•gasoline, kerosene, water, bleach or other liquids likely to evaporate or start fires, in quantities over about a quart
•anachronistic equipment - e.g. reactors, lasers, medkits, CBR kits. Project batteries are about the only exception to this
(they look fairly ordinary).
Nearly every Recon team cache has the "universal" items; other caches mix and match contents, but at least one set of
the three Operations types, and the food, will be in at least one cache. Important note: these are by no means all the
cache content sets -- just those known of by a typical Recon team.
