My essay is going to be about saving endangered animals. I want to know why people

think that it is okay to kill animals just for their body parts or fur. People need to enforce more

laws about poaching and or create new ones to attempt to save the animals that are still left.

Conant, Sheila. “Saving Endangered Species by Translocation.” BioScience, vol. 38, no. 4, Apr.

1988, pp. 254–257. EBSCOhost, doi:10.2307/1310848.

Saving Endangered Species by Translocation by Shelia Conant, appeared in a

BioScience newspaper in April of 1988. The main point of the article was that moving animals to

a new location could potentially save their species. Conant mentions the difference between

reintroduction and translocation and how reintroduction will still contain the same factors that

made that species lose numbers dramatically. Translocation also has some down side effects but

the overall effect is good. The new species that is getting moved can harm the species already

living there. Also, the species could adapt a new change to their body that they now need or do

not need and even create a new species of their own. The solution is to document everything

about a location before you add a new species and see what changes once they get there. The

purpose of this article is to show that you have to try out something new when you are trying to

make a drastic change on the earth. A new method is going to have both positive and negative

side effects but you have to just keep trying. Conant is a professor in Hawaii and studies biology
as a living. I will use this in my paper as a point to help my argument that endangered animals

need to be saved. This will show that researchers and scientists are working to find a new

solution and different ways to save them.

“Endangered Species.” National Geographic 2019.

February 2019.

“Endangered Species” by the National Geographic is on the National Geographic website

and was published in February of 2019. The main point is development, human activity and loss

of habitat are the major reasons for endangerment. Smaller habitats do not work for large animals

such as the mountain lion that needs a lot of space to patrol and reproduce. People cut down trees

and that makes species such as fungi, monkeys and other plants lose their homes. People do not

think of plants being under this category of endangered but they are. Losing genetic variation is

also a consequence to habitat loss. Even a car getting in a collision can make a species become

endangered. The purpose of this article is to show that even the smallest thing can make

something be gone or almost gone forever. People do not realize that they are killing animals and

it needs to be brought to their attention. I am going to use this in my paper to show the effects of

habitat loss. It also provides the example of the mountain lion to show how this directly affects

animals.

University, Columbia University Press, 8th edition, 2018. Credo Reference,

“Endangered Species” by Paul Lagasse appeared on the Columbia Encyclopedia in 2018.

The main point is that when people hunt or trap animals to protect their livestock, it harms the

animals more than they think. They might just think they are killing a bird here or there but in

reality, they are putting that species at risk. Destroying of habitats is the main reason for

endangerment. There is U.S. legislation and different protection organizations to help protect

these animals. There are some laws banning people from poaching but they still do it anyway.

The point of this is to show that even though there are laws and legislation to help protect these

animals, they cannot stop everyone. I can use this in my paper to show the different types of

legislation and groups that are out there to save these endangered animals.

“ESA Implementation” Endangered Species 2019. U.S. Fish & Wildlife Services.

https://www.fws.gov/endangered/improving_esa/index.html Accessed 3 February 2019.

“ESA Implementation” by the U.S. Fish & Wildlife Services was found on the U.S. Fish

& Wildlife Services website and was published in 2019.The ESA is the Endangered Species Act.

It helps out the species that are at risk for endangerment and extinction. It has helped save

multiple species in California. It has even helped save the bald eagle. It focuses on recovery for

the animals. The ESA is also still being worked on today to keep improving to help the animals.

The point of this is to show that there is an act to help save endangered animals. I will use this in

my paper because it shows that there is something being done about endangered animals. The

ESA is to help the animals not hurt them.

“How Climate Change Could Make Sea Turtles Extinct - Rising Sea Levels Threaten to

Swallow up Beaches That These Marine Animals Need to Nest” by Peter Fugazzotto appeared in

the Aquatic Variation in 2016. The main point is that sea turtles already have it bad but then

drastic climate changes are making it even worse for them. With temperatures increasing, ice

caps in the oceans are melting and making the sea levels rise. This makes the turtles not able to

lay their eggs because the land is being drowned by the rising sea levels. To help with this we

need to reduce levels of carbon dioxide that we produce to reverse or slow global warming. At

this rate, sea turtles will not last very long. The point of this article is to show that there are

multiple factors that make endangered species endangered. We can try to help fix it but it has to

be everyone, not just a few. I can use this as an example of an animal that is struggling to

survive. To show the different factors that go into making a species endangered.

“Expert Says Endangerment of Species Puts Global Environment in Danger of

Extinction” by Simon Rosof and Alia Taliaferrow appeared in the New York Amsterdam news

in March of 1977. The main point is that so many species would not be endangered if they had a

proper habitat. The main reasons that animals are endangered are overharvesting, habitat

destruction and other animals destroying what other animals need to survive. People just keep

hunting animals and burning down forests not realizing that they are killing innocent animals.

They need homes where they can reproduce naturally and not be harmed. People also steal exotic

animals to sell them just to make money. As long as the animals have a safe home to live with

others just like them, they can thrive. The purpose of this was to show that humans are

destroying the environment which is killing all of these animals for no reason. This source is

credible because it was written on an interview of Dr. Mary Pearl who is an executive director of

the Wildlife Preservation Trust International. I will use this in my paper to show one thing that

can be done to save the animals. It supports my argument and helps me get the message across

that if you save the habitat, you save the animals.

“Saving Endangered Species” appeared in the Congressional Digest in March of 1966.

The main point was about the Endangered Species Act. The act makes it illegal to harm any plant

or animal under either “endangered” or “threatened” in any way. Scientist have a hard time

figuring out exactly how many species are threatened since they cannot figure out exactly how
many species there are all together. About 3,700 species are on the waitlist to becoming

officially endangered. The main support behind the ESA is that it helped save the bald eagle. The

point of this article is to show how hard it is that there are so many animals to put them on the

endangered list. It is hard but they have to do it to have a chance to survive. I can use this

because it provides me more information about what another one of my sources say. They both

give different information but this ones provides more statistics to support each other.
