    The objective of the assignment was to identify water sources polluted by phosphate ions in Sungai Siput (U) area and inform relevant departments to take appropriate action. Water analysis found that fertilizers, animal waste and domestic effluents were polluting water sources with phosphate ions. Testing revealed that Sg. Buloh river water had the highest concentration of phosphate ions, followed by drain water, while lake water and rain water concentrations were not alarming. The relevant departments and local authorities were to be informed so they could take appropriate actions to address the pollution issues found.

    ABSTRACT

    Objective of the assignment is to identify water sources polluted by


    phosphate ions in Sungai Siput (U) area and inform respective
    department to take appropriate actions. Fertilizers, animal waste and
    domestic effluents are the sources of phosphate ions which will cause
    water pollution to occur. Water analysis is carried out to determine
    concentration of phosphate ions in the water by using Macherey-Nagel
    ®
    Visocolour School test kit. Sg.Buloh river water recorded highest
    concentration of phosphate ions followed by drain water while the
    concentration of phosphate ions in lake water and rain water are not
    alarming. Thus, respective department such as Department of
    Environment, Ministry of Agriculture and Agro-based Industry, village
    chief and farmers will be informed to take appropriate actions.
