A H M 531 Liquid Limit test By: Mu'men Al-Otoom
Objective:
How can we find liquid limit (LL).
Find the propertes of any soil with there water
content.
Ciassifid soil for four kinds.
Theory:
Atterber rule.
Definition:
This experment used to determine the propertes
of soil by it is moisturecontent.
Uses:
It is used to find propertes of soil so that help us
to take statement.
It is used to classifid the soils.
Sample Identification:
• In this experment we need amount of clay
• Amount of water.
Equipment:
1) Casagrande liquid limit device.
2) Grooving tool.

3) Moisture cans.
4) Porcelain evaporating dish.
5) Spatula.
6) Oven.
7) Balanced sensitive up to 0.01g.
8) Plastic squeeze bottle.
9) Paper towels.
Spatula.
Procedure:
Mixed the soil (CLAY FROM #40) with water to
long time until you feel it is very homogenous.
THEN TAKE AMOUNT OF IT & PUT IT ON THE
Casagrande liquid limit device BY Spatula.
THEN MAKE HOLE ON IT BY Grooving tool.
NOW MOVE IT BY CIRCULAR MOVING (
BLOWS) & BECARFUL WHEN THE HOLE IS
CLOSED BECAUSE IT IS NO. OF BLOWS.
AFTER THAT, TAKE AMOUNT OF IT (WET
SOIL) AND WEIGHT IT WITH CONTAINER ON
Baqlance sensitive up to 0.01g.
THEN PUT IT ON OVEN.
WEIGHT IT AFTER THAT.( DRY SOIL+
CONTAINER).
THEN CALCULATE THE( Wcontent).
Plot plan W & No.of blows.
Finally, LL = W when No.of blows =25.
LL = W(%)(N/25)0.121 .
