CHAPTER III

RESEARCH METHOD

The research method in this study includes: location and time research, population
and sample research, research methods, research procedures, data collection techniques and
data analysis techniques. There are also components that include research methods will be
described below.

3.1.Research Location and Time

The research will be conducted in Binjai, North Sumatera. Research time will be in
March 2017 to September 2017, the time includes: preparation of proposals, preliminary
analysis of laboratory activity and virtual chemistry laboratory application, develop learning
media, standardization of learning media, try out the developed media to student, data
analysis, writing the research result report.

3.2. Population and Sample

Populations in this research are all of Senior High School (SHS) chemistry teacher in
Binjai and all of natural science students grade XI in State Senior High School (SSHS) 1
Binjai.
Teacher population of this research is 74 chemistry teacher in Binjai. Samples were
taken to test the feasibility of virtual chemistry laboratory media are 5 chemistry teachers.
The population of natural science program grade XI in SSHS 1 Binjai is 320 students.
Samples of this research are 64 students that was divided into two classes as Experiment
group and control group. The sample will be chosen by purposive sampling technique.
Expert validator for validating the learning media include two lecturers from State
University of Medan who taught “Development of Chemistry Learning Media” course.

3.3. Research Method

This is a research and development method that used to produce the certain product
and test the effectiveness of the product (Sugiyono., 2010). The products developed are in the
form of a virtual chemistry laboratory media on solubility and solubility product topic.

3.4 Procedure
Research procedure include the following phase : (1) Preliminary analysis chemistry
laboratory (2) Design and develop virtual chemistry laboratory media (3) Assessment of
Feasibility level from expert, include teacher and lecturer then revise product (4) Try out the
product media to student. In summary the research procedures shown in the flow diagram in
