TITLE: “Good Times Ahead!”

O3- to practice the going to future tense choosing one of the countries they have learned
about and writing an activity they are going to do.

Activity 1 Warm-up

Aim: To create a pleasant atmosphere and to relax the Ss


To get Ss involved in the topic
Procedure:
1. Informal conversation, greetings
2. Check if there are students missing
Interaction: T-Ss
Timing: 2 min

Activity 2: Checking the previous knowledge

Aim: to answer general questions about last holiday, holiday activities.


Procedure:
The T asks pupils to tell her their best experiences in the past year: What did you
do last summer? Where did you go?. Then T plays the song The Best Year Ever! and the
pupils sing along.
Interaction: T-Ss; Ss-T
Timing: 7 min

Activity 3 Lead in

Aim: to introduce the theme of the lesson


Procedure:
The T reads the title of the unit and elicits what the unit is ging to be about.
T pins up the Countries! poster on the board, points to each flag, reads and says
the appropriate word. The pupils listen and repeat. T points to the flag in random order
and she invites the pupils to tell the corresponding words.
Pupils open the books and the T is playing the recorder. The pupils listen and
repeat chorally and then individual pupils read our the words.
Pupils in pairs act our similar exchanges as in the listening activity: Where are you
going to go on holiday? I’m going to go to Greece. Etc
Pupils are asked to choose one country they are going to go on holiday then pupils
come to the board and write their names (on strips of paper) next to the flag of the
country they are going to go on holiday.Then T has a classroom survey to find the most
popular holiday destination.

Timing: 10 min
Activity 4 Speaking and Listening

Aim: - to read the dialogue about uncle Harry’ holiday plans


Procedure: T goes through the pictures of the dialogue with the pupils and sets the
scene by asking questions such as: Look! Larry is getting his suitcase ready. He’s going
to go on holiday!
T plays the recording and pupils listen answering the question Where is
Chuckles going to go on holiday? (A: Chimps Hotel) Then pupils take roles and read
out the dialogue.
T chooses four children from the class and asks them to role-play the
dialogue about uncle Harry’ holiday plans
Then they discuss about the holiday.T. gives them some more types of holiday activities
to help children.

Activity 5 Practice
Aim: to use the prompts and write statements or questions with going to

Procedure: T writes on the board I am going to travel to Italy on holiday.


T explains that we use be going to to talk about future plans and
intentions.T shows the people how the affirmative is formed: verb ‘to be’+ going to+
main verb.
I’m going to travel to Italy on holiday.(short form)
T presents all the other persons of the affirmative, negative, interrogative in
the same way. Then T aks the pupils to tell her their next week’s plans. (go to a part,
visit grandma, go to the park etc)
T explains the instructions from ex 3/81. Pupils have to form sentences with
be going to for each character in ex 3 and his activity.
Then t elicits actions related to holidays and write them on the board (e.g. go
swimming, eat ice cream, stay in the sun, go sailing etc)
T tells the pupils to choose one of the countries they have learned and write
one thing they are going to do there. (I’m going to go to Portugal.I’m going to go
sailing there.)

Activity 5:Homework assignment

Aim: to let Ss know what they have to do


Procedure: to complete the missing words in the handout using going to
T praises all students for their participation during the entire lesson

Assessment: T grades the Ss and shows her appreciation for their activity.

2. Read the following sentences and say what the children are going to do
the next school year:

My friends buy many copybooks for the new school year. They have two English
lessons a week. We study every day. First, my brother does homework, and then
he watches TV. You learn many English words and phrases. We speak only
