3. Design conditions

This plant is designed for a service life of more than 30 years, working in continuous operation in a
marine ambient (C4 for indoor C5M for outdoor).

3.1. Climatic conditions

Indicative climatic conditions for Salalah site are in the next table:

Temperatures
Maximum ambient air temperature in the shade, to be taken as air inlet temperature
45 °C
for air-conditioning and ventilation.
Design wet bulb temperature. 30 °C
Minimum ambient air temperature. 5 °C
Average annual ambient air temperature. 28 °C
Maximum metal temperature in the sun. 85 °C
Maximum daily ambient air temperature during 2013 and 2014. 35.9 °C
Minimum daily ambient temperature during 2013 and 2014. 16 °C
Barometric Pressure
Maximum barometric pressure. 1030 mbar
Minimum barometric pressure. 970 mbar
Humidity
Maximum ambient relative humidity. 100 %
Average annual ambient relative humidity. 70 %
Minimum ambient relative humidity. 10 %
Annual Rainfall
Total rainfall during 2013 and 2014. 151.6 mm
Wind
Maximum daily average wind velocity during 2013 and 2014. 28.8 km/h
Maximum wind velocity. <160 km/h
Dust concentration
Dust concentration in the air under normal conditions. 1.0–2.0 mg/m3
Dust concentration in the air approx. under dust storm conditions. 100 mg/m3

Particular attention, if required, should be paid to the prevailing severe climate conditions:
• A considerable amount of salt is contained in the atmosphere, giving rise to severe corrosion
attack, taking the high ambient humidity into account;
• Protection against dust and sand for outdoor equipment requires special attention;
• Rainfall is very erratic but attention must be paid to the fact that sudden heavy downpours
can occur; and
• Strong winds are common; sand- and dust-storms are frequent.

Scissor lift shall be designed according to these conditions, and considering that will be placed
indoors in a corrosive marine environment (C4 - for indoor conditions).

Seismic load shall be considered as per the basis of IBC and respective Oman Standards. The
seismic activity of Zone 2A to be considered on these codes.

However, UBC, IBC, BS, Euro or DIN standard may be followed if the requirement is not covered by
local codes and standards.

3.3. Permissible noise limits

The sound levels shall be measured according to ISO standards.

For specific areas shall comply at least following sound pressure levels:
