Introduction

Dilla is the capital of Gedeo Zone. It is one of the oldest and well known trade city
in Ethiopia, which is located 359 km South of Addis Ababa. Majority of its
population are protestant and Muslim. The Muslim societies of the city perform
their daily religious duty in their mesjid which is found in different areas of the
city.

Muhajirin mesjid is one among them. This mesjid is located 50 meter from Odaya
Campus of Dilla University, which makes it suitable for the students and the
surrounding community to perform their religious duty. The total size of the area
of the mesjid is 2000 sq.meter, but out of this only 400 sq.meter is used with
temporarily built mesjid. The license for construction permission is under progress
with the concerned body of the city administration. The mesjid has the University
Muslim Students Jema’a (association) which is found by the students during the
establishment of the University to support each other in their daily academic and
other activities.

This Jema’a has different sectors working together to make the students successful
both in their academy and the hereafter. Some of the activities of the jema’a are
teaching Islam to the students and the community, providing financial and material
support to the needy (primarily to the students), tutorial services to high school
students and other community services. However, the students Jema’a are facing a
lot of problems like shortage of water, lack of enough space within temporarily
built mesjid, absence of its own income source etc.
Problems

One of the primary problems among the above is the shortage of water which
hinders the students and the community from their daily religious duty and other
activities. The students Jema’a has been working to solve the problem by carrying
water with jar from the River Walemi, which is 800 meter from the mesjid. This is
the work to serve more than 1600 students and the surrounding community, but the
water of the river is contaminated by different factory wastage a long its way. And
it cause different disease on the students & the community. Some of the diseases
are typhoid and typhus, cholera, malaria and different skin problems.

Goals

To protect the students and the community from the above mentioned
problems the student Jema’a (association) primarily propose the project of
digging out water within the mesjid compound and installing it in a
different jug to use it properly. Secondly the student Jema’a (association)
has an objective of building a new mesjid within the compound.

The scope of this project is digging out consistent ground water from 100 or
