Work Method Statement

Using a standard information tagging system incorporating a transparent weather-proof

plastic sleeve, the following tagging procedure is to be implemented.

Step 1 Tagging

Step 1 Tagging is applied to all Equipment and Piping flanged joints.

Step 1 Tags are to be green, red and white. Once the relevant information has been
completed, the Step 1 Tags are to be sealed in a transparent plastic sleeve.

The sequence of operations leading to acceptance for application of a Step 1 Tagging.

Break joint in accordance with agreed guideline ensuring personnel are qualified in this operation.

Maintain all bolts/nuts for refurbishment and replacement if required. When practicable store
bolts/nuts in bolt boxes in a safe manner

Clean joint faces to agreed guideline

Where access permits, examine joint faces for pitting, corrosion and mechanical damage. (This
operation is not feasible when breaking joints and fitting spades)

Results of the examination are to be reported to the QA/QC Inspector

A judgement is made to refer the condition of the flange set for engineering disposition via a Field
Engineering Enquiry (FEQ)

Assessment of the FEQ shall be recorded and if approved for service a copy of the FEQ shall be
placed in the work pack

If the assessment indicates replacement or repair, the red tag shall remain in place

If a flange is replaced then that flange number shall be deleted and replaced with a new number

Attach damage notification tag or dispensation tag as required.

The dispensation tag when used will remain attached to the flange up to and after the Stage 2
Procedure.

Any joint face requiring remedial works, to be highlighted by attaching a red damage tag, which
must remain in place until rectification work has been carried out and accepted.

Arrange any remedial works and when accepted remove red damage tag.

When required, ensure temporary protection is fitted to flange faces

Attach Stage 1 Tag to Flange Joint - secure through bolt holes.

Step 2 Tagging (White)

Step 2 Tagging is applied to all flanged joints which have been made ready for handover
prior to start-up phase. Once the relevant information has been completed, the tags are
to be sealed in a transparent plastic sleeve and connected to the flange.

The following is a sequence of operations leading to acceptance for application of a Step

2 Tag.

Receive new / refurbished items for remaking joint.

Carry out checks on supplied items.

a) Gaskets - type, materials and ratings

b) Jointing materials

c) Bolting - size and materials

d) Application of washers/locking devices

e) Mating surfaces free from damage and clean.

f) Report any discrepancies

Remove any temporary protection and Stage 1 Tag

Apply gasket/jointing as required to agreed guideline. Ensure personnel are qualified in this
operation.

Close joint and fit bolting, nuts, washers as applicable. Apply lubricants to bolting as required.

Tighten bolts to agreed sequence. Ensure approximately 2 threads of bolting protrude through
nut(s).

Tension bolting to agreed sequence as required.

Attach Stage 2 Tag to Joint. Secure tag to bolting.
