1.0 PURPOSE:
The purpose of this method statement is to outline the method of storage and installation of
HVAC supply, return pressurisation and exhaust including fixing of volume control dampers,
fire dampers and access door, etc.

2.0 SCOPE:
This method statement applies to installation of HVAC supply, return, pressurisation and exhaust
duct, dampers, fire dampers.

3.0 APPLICATION:
G.I Sheet metal duct are used for supply, return, pressurisation, exhaust and treated fresh air
ducting.

4.0 MATERIAL:
a) Pre fabricated ducts made of G.I sheet.

b) Flanges for joining the G.I ducts factory fabricated of G.I sheet steel.

c) Threaded rods, G.I angles, etc., for supporting system.

d) Duct sealant, Gaskets & Adhesives.

e) VCDs, Fire dampers as per approved submittals/samples.

5.0 METHOD:
5.1 Storage:

a) When off-loading , the ducts shall be carefully lowered to ensure no damages to edges or
duct surface.

b) All ducts shall be stored properly to safeguard ducts from any abrasion and damages.

c) Duct sealant, adhesive, gaskets, etc., shall be stored in enclosed area as per
manufacturer's recommendations.

5.2 Preparation:

a) Ducts are pre-fabricated and longitudinally pre-assembled to a maximum length of 1.2m

at the MCC factory as per the construction schedule, preparation / formation of flanges
for transverse joints are made at MCC factory.

b) Wherever branch take-off collars are to be fixed, suitable cut out shall be made in the
ducts. The size of cut out shall be equal to the duct cross sectional area and secured
using aluminum pop rivets on duct screen and the joint between collar and duct surface
shall be sealed with approved duct sealant.

c) Wherever flexible ducts are to be fixed.

6.0 INSTALLATION:
a) The layout of duct to be installed shall be as per approved drawing.

b) Threaded rod of suitable size shall be fixed.

c) G.I angle, cut to require size of duct ( to have clearance of 50mm on either side ) shall be
fixed to the threaded rod and locked in the position by nuts and washers.
d) On laying the ducts as detailed above to form the required layout, the ducts shall be
properly aligned and leveled to maintain B.O.D. and distances as per approved drawing.

e) Riser / Shaft Ducts: Duct supports shall be taken at each floor / vertical wall.

f) Flexible ducts installed shall be supported using G.I wire the duct and suspended from
slab if the flexible duct length exceed 2 meter.

g) Suitable plenum box as applicable shall be connected to main duct through pre-insulated
flexible duct. connection through round collars fixed to plenum. Diffuser plenum boxes
shall be suspended from underside of slab using central hanger made of galvanized
threaded rod and washers. Manual volume control dampers as approved shall be fixed in
the ducting system wherever mentioned in the drawing.

h) Fire damper shall be installed as per approved drawing / manufacturer installation

details.

i) Diffusers plenum shall be leveled properly to suit false ceiling.

7.0 INSPECTION:
a) After the duct installation MCC Engineer shall inspect the complete installation and
offer the same for consultant's inspection

b) On fixation of final fix items like grilles / diffusers etc, consultant's engineer shall be
invited for final inspection and certification.

7.1 Duct inspection:

When MCC hanged the duct on the supports, duct under test must be marked on the drawing and
submitted to consultant for inspection.
7.2 Smoke Test:

a) minor access outlet will be free opened at the end of tested duct.

b) Smoke fan attached to the start of tested duct with flexible duct.

c) Smoke Emitters in tested duct, while smoke fan is started.

d) Test duct to notice huge smoke leak from duct.

e) In case of leakage, Sealant is applied to reported area and repeat.

f) Report success of Leak Test.
