PRE-BOARD

SUBJECT– MATHEMATICS
Maximum Marks : 80 Class –Xth Time : 3 Hours

GENERAL INSTRUCTIONS 3 0- 01 -2 0 19

(i) All questions are compulsory.


(ii) The question paper consists of 30 questions divided into four sections A, B, C and D.
(iii) Section A contains 6 questions of 1 mark each.
Section B contains 6 questions of 2 marks each.
Section C contains 10 questions of 3 marks each.
Section D contains 8 questions of 4 marks each.
(iv) There is no overall choice. However, an internal choice has been provided in two questions of 1 marks
each , two questions of 2 marks each, four questions of 3 marks each and three questions of 4 marks
each. You have to attempt only one of the alternatives in all such questions.
(v) Use of calculators is not permitted.

SECTION –A

1. A box contains 3 blue, 2 white and 4 red marbles. If a marble is drawn at random from the box, what is
the probability that it will be
(i) White? (ii) Blue?

If one zero of the polynomial p(x) = (a + 9) x + 45x + 6a is reciprocal of the other, find the value of a.

5. Check whether – 150 is a term of the AP : 11, 8, 5, 2….. .

6. Write whether 2 45 – 3 20 on simplification gives a rational or an irrational number.

SECTION –B
7. 2002 cartons of Lassi bottles and 2618 cartons of frooti are to be stacked in a class room. If each stack
is of the same height and is to contain cartons of the same type of bottles, what would be the greatest
number of cartons each slack would have?

8. Find the 10th term from the end of the AP : 8, 10, 12, .. 126.

9. The mid-point of line segment is (1, 4). If one end point is (3, 6), find the coordinates of the other end point.
OR
The centroid of a triangle is the point (6, 1). If two vertices of the triangle are (3, 2) and (11, 4), find the
third vertex

10. Prove that the perpendicular at the point of contact to the tangent to a circle passes through the centre.
11. If the point P(x, y) is equidistant from the points A(5, 1) and B(–1, 5) show that 3x = 2y.

12. If two zeros of the polynomial x3 – 4x2 – 3x + 12 are 3 and – 3 , then find its third zero.
OR

SECTION–C
13. ABC is an isosceles triangle in which AB = AC and BC2 = 2AB2, Prove that ABC is right triangle.

14. Solve graphically the pair of liner equation 4x – 3y = 6 and 7x + 3y = 27


Find the coordinates of the vertices of triangular region formed by these lines and y – axis. Also
calculate area of the triangle

The first and the last terms of an AP are 17 and 350 respectively. If the common difference is 9, how
many terms are there and what is their sum?

18. Draw a pair of tangents to a circle of radius 5 cm which are inclined to each other at an angle of 60º.

19. The rain water from a roof of 22 m × 20 m drains into a cylindrical vessel having diameter of base 2 m
and heights 3.5 m. If the vessel is just full, find the rainfall in cm.
OR
The radius of the base and the height of a solid right circular cylinder are in the ratio 2 : 3 and its volume
is 1617 cm 3. find the total surface area of the cylinder.

20. If sin  + cos  = 2 , then prove that tan  + cot  = 2.

21. The length of the minute hand of a clock is 14 cm. Find the area swept by the minute hand in 5 minutes
OR
The shadow of a tower standing on a level ground is found to be 40 m longer when the Sun's altitude is
30° than when it is 60°. Find the height of the tower.

22. Solve 2x + 3y = 11 and 2x – 4y = – 24 and hence find the value of 'm' for which y = mx + 3.
OR
Find the value of 'k', for which the points (7, –2), (5, 1), (3, k) are collinear.

SECTION–D
23. Prove that 3 is an irrational number and hence prove that 3 5 – 1 is an irrational number.

24. Abdul travelled 300 km by train and 200 km by taxi, it took him 5 hours 30 minutes. But if he travels
260 km by train and 240 km by taxi he takes 6 minutes longer. Find the speed of the train and that of
the taxi.

25. Prove that : In triangle, if the square of one side is equal to the sum of the squares of the other two
sides, then the angle opposite to the side is a right angle.

26. In given figure, l and m are two parallel tangents at A and B. The tangent at C makes an intercept DE
between l and m. Prove that DFE = 90º

27. A statue 1.6 m tall stands on the top of pedestal. From a point on the ground, the angle of elevation of
the top of the statue is 60º and from the same point the angle of elevation of the top of pedestal is 45º.
Find the height of the pedestal.

The lengths of 40 leaves of a plant are measured correct to the nearest millimetre, and the data

29. Prove that the lengths of tangents drawn from an external point to a circle are equal. Using the above,
prove that if a circle touches all the four sides of a parallelogram, show that the parallelogram is a
rhombus.

30. A bucket made up of a metal sheet in the form of a frustum of a cone of height 16 cm with radii of its
lower and upper ends as 8 cm and 20 cm respectively. Find the cost of the bucket, if the cost of the
metal sheet used is ` 15 per 100 cm 2. (use  = 3.14)
OR
A solid iron pole consists of a cylinder of height 220 cm and base diameter 24 cm, which is surmounted
by another cylinder of height 60 cm and radius 8 cm. Find the mass of the pole, given that 1 cm 3 of iron
has approximately 8g mass. (Use  = 3.14)
