A- Below standard- Current student enrollment is 2,137 students and if you multiply that

number by 12 items per student at the high school level it totals 25,644. This number is
14,138 more then what the current collection is at Stratford. The current collection within
the library is 11,506 (11,071 print titles, 247 E-Books, 188 audiobooks). This is well
below standard due to budget constraints, square footage of the library, and lack of
professional staff to help maintain the collection.
B- Exemplary- The average age of the collection is 2009. Fiction represents 73% of the
collection and its average age is 2009. 33% of the collection is 2012 or newer.
Nonfiction, which is 27% of the collection, has an average age of 2006. The collection is
constantly being weeded and new materials are being added on a weekly basis. The
librarian provides many electronic resources at the library or on the school website.

The top three sections of the collection, arranged by Dewey classification, with the newest
materials are as follows:

 Computer science, information and general works- 2012

 Philosophy and psychology- 2009
 Technology and social sciences- 2007
- The oldest in this section is literature and language with its average age being 2001.

In the fiction, reference, biography, and other categories the newest materials are as follows:

 Book club books- 2016

 Graphic novels- 2012
 General fiction- 2010
- The oldest section in this part of the collection is easy paperback.

C- Below standard- At present, Stratford has 72 electronic devices available for student use
in the library facility as well as 2 circulation desk computers. The average age of these
devices is 10+ years. The 72 devices are made up by 45 Dell Laptop devices (12 years
old), 20 Dell Desktop devices (10 years old), 2 Apple iMac devices (8 years old), 5
Chromebook devices (3 years old). While the number of devices available to students in
relationto library capacity meets exemplary program development standards, the age of
the device falls in the below standard program development range. To reach the status of
exemplary program development the library will need to weed the existing devices over
the next five years and establish a 3-year replacement cycle for all new devices. The
number of required devices to meet exemplary is 87 or more available devices.
D- Exemplary- The library uses the GALE and Texquest databases to provide subscriptions
to other resources that the students can use to research, search for books, and find
information. Gale uses national geographic, the Chilton Library, and LitFinder to name
just a few. They can also find other resources and periodicals on ItsLearning. Shelby has
provided links to materials that students will need to be successful in their academic
career.
E- Below standard- Shelby used grant money to purchase 15 periodicals. Some of the
subscriptions she purchased are Smithsonian, People, National Geographic, Leatherhead,
Sports Illustrated, Art in America, Travel and Leisure, Vogue and Texas Monthly just to
name a few. Due to most magazines going digital most of the print periodicals did not get
used. Therefore, she only purchased a few periodicals to be housed in the library.
F- Exemplary- The library subscribes to the Houston Chronicle (local) and to the New
York Times, Wall Street Journal, and Newsweek.
G- Exemplary- Shelby has written her own library policies and procedures manual for her
school and the district is using it to currently write one for the entire district.
H- Exemplary- The library uses 11 review journals such as Horn Book Guide, Booklist,
Kirkus Reviews, and Publishers Weekly. She also has a list of 13 books that she uses to
help locate, evaluate, and select materials. Some of their titles include: 100 Best Books
for Children, Best Books for High School Readers: Grades 9-12, and Crossing
Boundaries with Children’s Books. The selected materials that are up for consideration
must have received favorable reviews from at least 2 of the professional selection tools
that she uses within the library.
I- Exemplary- While Shelby has a fair understanding of the book choices that the students
gravitate for, she also finds that it is of the utmost importance to allow them the chance to
express their opinions regarding the titles selected for the library. She created an easily
accessible book survey that students could fill out concerning what different types of
subject matter, format, and genre appeal to them. She also generated fliers and posted
them around the school with a QR code that links to the online survey. She used those
answers to complete many of the orders for the library much the same way that she uses
teacher recommendations for the library. She is also open to receiving any and all input
from the community on choices they would like to be added to the collection.
J- Exemplary- Materials that are added to the library collection are managed through an
assessment and evaluation process as determined by Spring Branch ISD. She uses her
professional judgment and expertise in deciding which materials need to be retained,
replaced, repaired, or weeded from the collection. Spring Branch ISD uses the MUSTIE
acronym to weed. Misleading, Ugly, Superseded, Trivial, Irrelevant, Elsewhere.
A- Exemplary. The American Library Association’s Code of Ethics, Confidentiality of
Library Records, Bill of Rights, and Freedom to Read policies ensure that Stratford
students, faculty, and community members have complete access to the entire collection
of the library materials.
B- Exemplary. Every material must go through the district and be approved to be used
within the classroom. Copyright information is also posted on every printer around
campus. All the copyright licenses are available at the main district office.
C- Acceptable. Copiers and printers are clearly marked within the library. Every student and
staff are required to take classes on copywriting.
D- Recognized. Shelby oversees all printers and copiers located within the library. She
monitors what is being printed and scans through the document to make sure all rules such
as plagiarism and copyright are being adhered to. If it is not being adhered to then she will
advise the student how to change the document to meet the standards.
E- Exemplary. All students and staff are required to take digital citizenship classes to ensure
that all district Internet policies are being followed. They are bound to the ideas outlined
in the Child Internet Protection Act. Prior to students being granted internet access they
must have a parent signed Acceptable Use Policy on file with the school.
F- Exemplary. Since every staff and student must take digital citizenship courses everyone is
aware of what acceptable internet use policy is. The students must also have parent
permission to use the Internet. The district has also posted the Acceptable Use Policy on
their main website and can be viewed when logging on to any district owned computer.
A. Exemplary. Shelby created and maintains a fully integrated library system webpage
within our online learning management system, itsLearning. The system allows for
students to locate online library information and resources in the same domain that they
access their class assignments and resources.
B. Exemplary- She provides access to all the digital library resources on the campus library
page and online learning management system, itsLearning. She also creates a PowerPage
of usernames and passwords for these resources that can only be accessed by SBISD
students, staff, and faculty members.
C. Exemplary- She is the only librarian in the library, and she has her own computer that
was given to her from the district.
D. Exemplary. Every teacher in the district has their own computer given to them upon
signing their contract. There are two circulation computers located at the circulation desk
in the front of the library.
E. Exemplary. Shelby is the itsLearning training leader for her campus. She offers
professional development training sessions and has created a number of different
screencast video how-to’s that she shares via her Tech Tip Tuesday emails and on the
library YouTube channel.
F. Exemplary. She is the only person that helps teachers and staff with school technology.
At her monthly district meetings, she can make suggestions on any and all aspects of the
district technology plan.
G. Exemplary. If there are any changes to any of the policies, she would immediately send
out an e-mail to the staff to notify them. She would also hold any trainings if needed
before and after school for the staff and students.
A. Shelby collaborates with the teachers on a need’s basis. She is always open to helping any
teacher who needs her to teach a subject or pull ancillary materials. She also meets with the
teachers at the beginning of each semester to see if they need anything or help with their lessons.
She believes that everyone needs to work together to ensure that the students receive a quality
education.

B. Stratford’s library has access to current information both digitally and located within the
library. She supplies the library with materials that are designed to provide information that will
motivate students and staff to examine their own attitudes and behavior; to understand their
duties, responsibilities, rights, and privileges as citizens participating in our society; and to make
informed choices in their daily lives.
