Establishing Breastfeeding Support Groups

• In the municipality of Polillo, exclusive breastfeeding prevalence for the previous year
2016 is 38.31% which is 10% lower than the percentage in 2014. It is way below the
national target which is 70%.
• Moreover, there is no existing breastfeeding groups or peer counsellors in the locale.
Although, one midwife is trained on Infant and Young Child Feeding (IYCF), there is a
lack of initiatives to increase breastfeeding rates.
• To address the problem and increase the breastfeeding rates, the Breastfeeding Support
Services Project is proposed to provide of breastfeeding peer support services in all
