CONCRETE MIXER

CONCRETE MIXER - A concrete mixer is a machine that has a large drum that is
revolving. Cement is mixed with other materials such as sand and gravel thus producing
concrete.

A. TYPES OF CONCRETE MIXERS

There are two different types of concrete mixers namely:

a. Continuous Concrete Mixer

This type of concrete mixer is
under the pan type of concrete
mixer and is usually used in large
construction projects such as
bridges and dams that need a large
amount of cement that flows
continuously.

b. Batch Mixers

Batch Mixers are concrete mixers wherein the mixing process is done
batch by batch. It simply means that after a certain batch is placed, mixed
and discharged, another batch will be introduced.

The two types of Batch Mixers are:

 Drum Type
- ingredients are mixed in a drum which is in double conical frustum
shape.

1. Tilting Drum Mixers

Tilting Drum Type Concrete Mixers are used for mixes of low
workability and for those containing large size aggregate. The mixing
chamber which is known as drum, is tilted for discharging.
 This concrete mixer has a conical or bowl-shaped drum with
vanes inside.

2. Non-Tilting Drum Mixers

In non-tilting mixers, the axis of the mixer is always horizontal.

The discharge is obtained either by inserting a chute into the drum
or by reversing the direction of rotation of the drum or rarely by
splitting of the drum.
 3. Reversing Drum Mixers

It is a type of concrete mixer that produces concrete in single

batches. The drum has two openings, one end is for pouring
materials and other end is for discharge of mix. The drum rotates
about its horizontal axis. The rotation of drum takes place in one
direction for mixing and in opposite direction for discharging.

 Pan type Mixer

The pan type concrete mixer under batch

mixer is suitable for mixing small quantities
of concrete, typically used in laboratories. It
is often used for both wet and dry materials.
It consists of mixer with pan, edge and
mixing blades, rubber wheels, and a
redactor.

B. OTHER TYPE OF CONCRETE MIXER

a. Truck Mixers

Truck Mixers are used mainly when it is required to transport the

concrete needed to a long distance. They usually work with a central
batching plant.
