PART – A

UNIT – I
1 Define RMS value and average value for alternating quantity. Find the form factor and peak factor for
the waveform shown in figure below:

0 1 2 3 4 5 6 t, sec

OR
2 The impedance parameters of a two port network are Z11 = 20 Ω, Z22 = 30 Ω, Z12 = Z21 = 10 Ω. Find
admittance and ABCD parameters of the network.
UNIT – II
3 Draw a neat sketch of a dc generator. State the functions of each part.
OR
4 What is the significance of back e.m.f ? Derive the torque equation of a dc motor.
UNIT – III
5 Why is the short circuit test performed on the HV side of a transformer? Why is the core loss almost
negligible in this test? Open circuit and short circuit tests on a 5 KVA, 220/400 V, 50 Hz, single phase
transformer gave the following results:
O.C test: 220 V, 2 A, 100 W
S.C test: 40 V, 11.4 A, 200 W
Determine the efficiency at full load 0.9 power factor lagging.
OR
6 Explain the principle of operation of a 3-phase induction motor. A 3-phase, 6 pole, 50 Hz induction
motor has a slip of 1% at no load and 3% at full load. Determine synchronous speed, no load speed,
full load speed, frequency of rotor current at standstill and frequency of rotor current at full load.

PART – B

UNIT – I
7 (a) Explain the VI characteristics of PN junction diode.
(b) Briefly discuss the temperature effect of PN junction.
OR
8 Explain the working of full wave rectifier with necessary diagram. Give the expressions for RMS
current, efficiency, ripple factor.

UNIT – II
9 (a) Sketch and explain the construction of N-channel JFET. Give also its symbol.
(b) Explain the operation of P-channel JFET. Sketch and explain the drain characteristics.
OR
10 (a) What is the need of biasing? Discuss voltage divider bias method for biasing the transistor.
(b) Write the differences between BJT and JFET.
UNIT – III
11 (a) Define the following OP-Amp parameters:
(i) Input offset voltage.
(ii) Input bias current.
(b) Design a differentiator using op-amp to differentiate an input signal that varies in frequency from
10 Hz to about 1 kHz. If a sine wave of IV peak at 1000 Hz is applied to this differentiator, draw the
output wave form.
OR
12 (a) List out the ideal characteristics of 741 op-amps.
(b) Draw the circuit diagram of a three input non-inverting type summing amplifier and derive the
expression for the output voltage.
