Abstract: The vehicle suspension system connects a vehicle to its wheels and contributes to the
vehicle's road handling and braking for better safety and driving pleasure, and offering a comfortable
ride well isolated from road noise, bumps, vibrations etc. Many people have own vehicles but they
don’t know the importance of shock absorber and how to maintain it. So, it becomes important that
the shock absorbers are efficient, durable and cost efficient. Material used for the helical coil spring is
of great importance as it is one of the main part of suspension system. Various research papers are
based on analysis done using different materials. Many papers were published regarding “Analysis and
Design of Shock Absorbers”. This paper is a review of previous literatures that cover the topic of design
and analysis of shock absorbers. Observations and recommendations are shared according to the
research gaps in the literature.
