Unlike another development, the Spotsylvania Solar Energy Center

WILL CREATE A SAFER, CLEANER WORLD FOR OUR CHILDREN

As opposed to another development on
this land, such as a neighborhood or an
industrial complex, the Solar Center will:

1. CONSERVE LAND
The sPower Spotsylvania Solar Energy Center will be sited on 3,000 acres of land in the
western portion of Spotsylvania County. Of the 6,000 total acres sPower will acquire for the
project, over 2,500 will be permanently conserved.

2. BRING ECONOMIC OPPORTUNITY TO OUR REGION

sPower partners with major national companies to provide solar power to the wholesale
market. Off takers of the Spotsylvania Solar Energy Center include Microsoft, Apple, Akamai,
and Etsy. The project has the potential to attract additional tech investment to the region as
more companies in Virginia look to use renewable energy to power their operations.

3. GENERATE CLEAN ENERGY AND HELP THE ENVIRONMENT

The project will generate 500 megawatts of solar power. To put this in perspective, this
project is projected to offset approximately 825,000 metric tons of carbon dioxide (CO2) per
year. That’s the equivalent of:
Greenhouse gas emissions from 176,094 passenger vehicles driven for one year
CO2 emissions from 88,798 homes’ energy use for one year
CO2 emissions from 92,535,140 gallons of gasoline consumed

4. IMPROVE COUNTY INFRASTRUCTURE

Unlike the solar project, a neighborhood, mixed use development, or industrial complex
would put further strain on country services such as schools, roads, trash, water, sewage,
fire and rescue, and more—costing the County money. As part of the project, sPower is
investing and improving our infrastructure by:
Investing $3.5 million to improve public water lines
Placing two new 50,000 gallon water tanks which will assist in supporting public safety
for the entire area
