We will show 8 properties of equality. When appropriate, we will illustrate with real
life examples of properties of equality.
Addition property
Subtraction property
Multiplication property
Division property
Commutative property
Associative property
Distributive property
Transitive property
If a = b, then a + c = b + c
When we add the same number with both side of equation, that should
not affect the result of the equation
Then, a - 9 + 9 = 7 + 9
a = 16
When we subtract the same number with both side of equation, that
should not affect the result of the equation.
Example:If a + 3 = 6
Then, a + 3 - 3 = 6 - 3
a=3
3. Multiplication Property of Equality
If a = b, then a × c = b × c
When we multiply the same number in the both side of the equation, that
should not affect the result of the equation.
Examples: If x5x5 = 7
then, x5x5 * 5 = 7 * 5
=> x = 35.
When we divide the same number with both side of the equation, that
should not affect the result of the equation.
Examples: If 4x = 24
x=6
a+b=b+a
a×b=b×a
Example: 2 + 3 = 5 = 3 + 2
4 × 5 = 20 = 5 × 4
(a + b) + c = a + (b + c)
(a × b) × c = a × (b × c)
Example:(6 + 2) + 3 = 8 + 3 = 11 and 6 + (2 + 3) = 6 + 5 = 11
(3 × 1) × 5 = 3 × 5 = 15 and 3 × (1 × 5) = 3 × 5 = 15
a × (b + c) = a × b + a × c
a × (b + c) = 4 × (2 + 7) = 4 × 9 = 36
a × b + a × c = 4 × 2 + 4 × 7 = 8 + 28 = 36
8.Transitive Property:
