Parcial I
Operation Research as allowed us to e¢ ciently address models that respond to di¤erent problems.
One of the meain areas of Operations Research is Optimization or Mathematical Programming Op-
timization is related to problems of minimizing or maximizing a function (objective) of one of several
variables, whose values are usually restricted by equations and / or inequalities.
Decision making.
Methodologies.
Complexity of problems.
Solution Algorithms (software).

1.1.1 Methodology
Formulation and de…nition of the problem.
Example 1 The choice between "heads or thails" of a coin. We don’t know in advancethe result, but we
know the probability of the two alternatives.
As they have done campaigns previously. They have been able to evaluate the results of the di¤erent
possiblilities in the follow way.
Maximus will be considered for p and the maximus for q. The major is chosen after weighing and
adding the expected results by the coe¢ cients of optimism and pessimism.

Exercise 4 The Go¤ erBroke owns a tract of land that may contain oil. A consulting geologist has
reported to management that she believes there is one chance in four of oil. Because of this prospect,
another oil company has o¤ ered to purchase the land for $90,000. However, Goferbroke is considering
holding the land in order to drill for oil itself. The cost of drilling is $100,000. If oil is found, the resulting
expected revenue will be $800,000, so the company’s expected pro…t (after deducting the cost of drilling)
will be $700,000. A loss of $200,000 (the drilling cost) will be incurred if the land is dry (no oil).

Interpretación:
