A study by Kphagawani, Useh (2013) states that effective learning takes place in a clinical

learning in clinical practice occurs if students are given oppurtunities to practice what they

have learnt in the classroom and skills supervised and supported, provided with feedback

in an environment where there is good interpersonal relationships and communication.

According to Lamount, Brunero, & Woods, (2015), one of the biggest challenges

has been argued to be that of ‘fitting in’ or ‘belonging’ during the clinical placement.

Belongingness in particular can influence student placement experience as it provides

evidence that staff are interested in the students’ learning and leaves them to concentrate

on integrating theory and practice and the development of new skills,as opposed to

navigating the social ward culture. Staff attitudes and behaviours are central to a positive

placement experience and maybe more important than any other factors. A welcoming,

approachable and friendly demeanour coupled with a willingness to teach are proposed

as attributes that existing placement staff require to enable a constructive learning

environment.

This findings demonstrates that students oppurtunities to learn in practice are

shaped by their position within the power dynamics of the clinical working environment

and particularly student’s relationships with other health care providers that serves as

their mentors. Health care providers that serves as mentors are central to students

potential to learn in clinical working environment on its own terms, but it is also important

because it suggests that poor mentorship can limit students learning oppurtunities in a

clinical working environment. The importance of having a good relationship with other

health care providers in a clinical working placement is that students can rely on them to

actually ensure that learning oppurtunities are maximized. Health care providers serves

as mentors that helps the student nurses to plan their learning and having a good

relationship among the health care providers and students makes the students feel like

they are a valuable part of the ward.

Shown in Table 2 is the linkage satisfaction of the respondents on the affiliation

centers in this study. According to the tabulated data shown, Hospital 2 garnered the

highest level of satisfaction among the three affiliation centers. Hospital 2 had an overall

mean score of 4.11, which was described as Very Satisfied – meaning, the respondents

were very satisfied with the personnel, services, and facilities that were provided by the

said affiliation center.

Particularly, in the case of Hospital 2, the respondents rated the Personnel and

Services that were provided by the said hospital with the highest level of satisfaction,

garnering a mean score of 4.12 for both parameters. Conversely, the respondents rated

score of 4.10.

On the other hand, Hospital 3 gained the lowest level of satisfaction, garnering an

overall mean score of 3.88, which was described as Very Satisfied – meaning, the

respondents were very satisfied with the personnel, services, and facilities that were

skills. A successful placement will culturally acclimatise and prepare the students to adopt

the role of the registered nurse. Depending on the placement area, students gain diverse

skills, such as, for example, the unique challenges of living and working in rural and/or

remote areas. In addition, since nursing education is consists of theory and practice

(Arkan, Ordin, & Yilmaz 2018), nursing students need to practice in an environment that

will provide them with individual and professional development.

Moreover, clinical education ensures delivering information and skills related to

patient care for students. The objective of clinical education is to improve students

professional critical thinking and decision-making skills and increase their self-confidence.

In addition, clinical education environment is a social environment where there are

individuals with different expectations and requirements and control of the conditions that

affect learning.
