Pharmacology in Near East University Mersin , turkey

The Department of Pharmacology, equipped with the latest high-tech devices and instruments, offers
scientific research opportunities at the research labs and student labs under the supervision of
experienced and competent academic staff. Besides, the department conducts interdisciplinary and
collaborative projects.

Departemen Farmakologi, dilengkapi dengan perangkat dan instrumen berteknologi tinggi terbaru,
menawarkan peluang penelitian ilmiah di laboratorium penelitian dan laboratorium siswa di bawah
pengawasan staf akademik yang berpengalaman dan kompeten. Selain itu, departemen melakukan
proyek-proyek interdisipliner dan kolaboratif.

Basically, the scientific studies and research at the department, listed under the following headings, are
being reviewed and evaluated on regular basis at seminars by lecturers and their assistants:

 The physical and chemical properties of drugs


 Biochemical, pharmacological and physiological effects of drugs
 Mechanisms of drug action
 Absorption-distribution-biotransformation and excretion of drugs
 The therapeutic use of drugs

Weekly articles

Our department carries out research on rational drug use and pharmacovigilance applications relating to
the detection, assessment, understanding and prevention of adverse effects and drug interactions,
particularly long term and short term side effects of medicines.

Accreditation

MPharm degree of Faculty of Pharmacy, Near East University has been granted Provisional Certification
by the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education, Chicago, Illinois, United States of America

HISTORY

The Department was founded in 1965-1966 academic year by Prof. Dr. S. Oğuz Kayaalp, who chaired the
Department. License and graduate education started the same year.

LOCATION AND CAPACITY

Department of Medical Pharmacology Department is located on the 6th floor of the Morphology Building in Hacettepe
University Sihhiye Campus. Main research topics are cardiovascular pharmacology, neuropharmacology and clinical
pharmacology / pharmacogenetics. Among laboratory resources in vitro organ baths, organ perfusion devices,
myograph, in vivo and in vitro electrophysiology settings, equipment suitable for hemodynamic experiments,
behavioral experiment set-ups, HPLC (high pressure liquid chromatography) and setups for molecular methods are
present.
Research carried out in the Department has been supported by Scientific Research Projects Coordination Unit, The
Ministry of Development, and The Scientific and Technological Research Council of Turkey (TUBITAK).

GRADUATE STUDENT EDUCATION

Graduate education in the Department is carried out under Masters of Science (M.Sc.), Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.)
and Medical Specialty programs.
Masters of Science (M.Sc.) Program: Candidates graduated from Faculties of Medicine, Dentistry, Pharmacy,
Veterinary Medicine, Engineering or graduates from 4-year license programs of Medical Biology, Biology or
Chemistry can apply to the program. Further information can be obtained from Hacettepe University Institute of
Health Sciences.
Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) Program: Candidates graduated from Faculties of Medicine or Dentistry, or graduates
from Faculty of Pharmacy who completed a M.Sc. degree in Pharmacology/Toxicology programs can apply to the
program. Further information can be obtained from Hacettepe University Institute of Health Sciences.
Medical Specialty Program: Students are admitted via Medical Specialty Examination (TUS).
Graduates of Ph.D. and Medical Specialty programs are mostly employed as researchers or academic staff in
national universities or abroad. Also, graduates can be occupied by hospitals of the Ministry of Health, Turkish
Medicines and Medical Devices Agency, Turkish Public Health Institution, or by drug industry, drug consultancy
companies and related organizations.
