days which is used mostly in Muslim countries and west regions where Muslims have been living to celebrate Islamic festivals, Offer Hajj, Observe the fasting in Ramdan and other Islamic events in different months of Hijri Calendar in year.

A sacred month, so called because battle and all kinds of fighting are forbidden 1 ُم َح َّرم Muharram Forbidden (haram) during this month. Muḥarram includes Ashura, the tenth day. Supposedly named thus because pre- Islamic Arab houses were empty this time of year while their occupants gathered 2 صفَر َ Safar Void food. Another account relates that they used to loot the houses of their enemies after defeating them in battle, leaving nothing behind. Also means to graze, because cattle were grazed during this month. Also a very َربِيع The first 3 Rabiul-Awwal holy month of celebration for many أٱْل َ َّول spring Muslims, as it was the month the Prophet Muhammad was born. ربيع The second 4 Rabi-uthani الثاني spring Often considered the pre-Islamic The first of ُج َما َد ٰى Jumadi-ul- summer. Jumada may also be related to 5 ُ أ parched ٱْلولَ ٰى Awwal a verb meaning "to freeze" and another land account relates that water would freeze during this time of year. The last of ُجما َدى 6 ٰ َأ Jumadi- parched Value ٱْل ِخ َرة uthani land This is the second sacred month in which fighting is forbidden. Rajab may also be Respect, related to a verb meaning "to remove", so 7 َر َجب Rajab honour called because pre-Islamic Arabs would remove the heads of their spears and refrain from fighting. Marked the time of year when Arab tribes dispersed to find water. Sha'ban may also be related to a verb meaning "to be in 8 ش أعبَان َ Sha'ban Scattered between two things". Another account relates that it was called thus because the month lies between Rajab and Ramaḍān Burning is related to fasting as in empty stomach one's worldly desire will burn. Supposedly so called because of high temperatures caused by the excessive Burning 9 ضان َ َر َم Ramadan heat of the sun. Ramadan is the most heat venerated month of the Hijri calendar. During this time, Muslims must fast from pre-dawn until sunset and should give charity to the poor and needy. She-camels would normally be in calf at 10 ش ََّوال Shawwal Raised this time of year and raise their tails. This is a holy month during which war is ذُو The one of 11 Zhul-Q'aada banned. People are allowed to defend أٱلقَ أع َدة truce/sitting themselves if attacked. The Hajj is performed on أٱل ِح َّجة pilgrimage the eighth, ninth and the tenth of this month. Day of Arafah takes place on the ninth of the month. Eid al-Adha, the "Festival of the Sacrifice", begins on the tenth day and ends on sunset of the twelfth, and this is a fourth holy month during which war is banned.
