OVERVIEW

L&T's Heavy Engineering Division designs, manufactures & supplies precision custom
engineered critical static hi-tech equipment & systems for the hydrocarbon sector including Oil
& Gas Refinery, Cracker, Petrochemicals, Fertilizer etc. apart from meeting the requirements  
of Defence , Aerospace and Nuclear Power sectors. It also supplies Key Coal Gasification
equipment including Coal Gasifiers & Syngas Coolers for Coal Gasification Plants.
 
For the Hydrocarbon sector, L&T supplies hi-tech critical equipment such as Reactors, Pressure
Vessels, and High Pressure - High Temperature Heat Exchangers worldwide. It has exported
equipment and systems to more than 40 countries.
 
For Nuclear Power Plants, range includes equipment for pressurized heavy water reactors, fast
breeder reactors heavy water plants &fuel reprocessing plants. Also offered are end shields
calandria steam generators, roof slab, high pressure exchangers apart from site services in new
& operating plants.
 
For the Defense Sector the range of products includes equipment & systems for: Naval marine
Systems, Naval Combat Systems, and Army & Defence electronics.
 
The Shipyard is geared up to take up construction of niche vessels such as Specialized Heavy
Lift Cargo Vessels, CNG Carriers, Tankers, Defense & Para Military Vessels & other Hi-tech
Ships
 
For these industries the Division manufactures equipment using an exhaustive array of
materials including low & high alloy steels, stainless and duplex stainless steels, clad &
overlaid steels, exotic material such as nickel, monel, cupro-nickel, copper hastelloy titanium,
zirconium, tantalium and new age composites.
 
Manufacturing activities are supported by engineering capabilities in thermal and mechanical
design, special analysis – including stress and vibration analysis, procurement, project
management, logistics and specialized services for site-work, erection & commissioning.

IT :

VIDEO CONFERENCING
L&T's Heavy Engineering Division has multi-point group video conferencing systems at
Mumbai, Vadodara and Hazira. These systems are capable of working simultaneously on
IP and ISDN. A high-end document camera with an electronic whiteboard facilitates
sharing of data and printed documents online. Two TV screens allow simultaneous
viewing of the participants as well as discussion material. The systems are also capable of
conducting simultaneous video conferencing between four different locations.

NETWORK COMMUNICATION
A state-of-the-art communications network facilitates speedy communication. All
computer resources available with the Strategic Business Units and Services Units are
interlinked to form a Local Area Network (LAN). Design and projects offices in
Mumbai, Faridabad, Bangalore, Vadodara and Hazira are linked to other offices
through L&T network. Project sites are linked to design and project offices through
VSATs, Leased Lines, ISDN and wireless links, achieving virtual single office
operation. The communication network at Powai is supported by 10 Gigabit backbone
on fibre optic Campus Area Network and at Vadodara by 1000 Mbps Campus Fibre
Optic Backbone with high-speed wireless links

SHAREPOINT PORTAL

It is an integrated suite of server capabilities that can help improve organizational

E-FOS
To implement the concept of Vendor Managed Inventory (VMI) for low cost FOS

E-PAYMENTS
To facilitate automatic payments to vendors on due date
Baan ERP is customized to generate payments data
Payments data uploaded on SCB site.
SCB credits vendor's account using NEFT/RTGS facility provided by RB

E-CRM
 A CRM (Customer Relationship Management) or customer care module is to provide an
interface to the existing customers to interact with responsible L&T personnel who are in
charge of their ongoing projects.
The objective is to provide customers with a personalized interface from where they can
view the status of their ongoing projects with L&T and also freely interact with the
responsible personnel as well as have access to the latest information regarding orders
placed by them

KNOWLEDGE MANAGEMENT
Built using
Microsoft SharePoint Portal Server (MS SPPS) 2003 and harnesses Dot Net technology

Leverages out-of-the-box functionalities like discussion forum, news sites, Document

BAAN
Being an Enterprise Recourse Planning tool, BaaN works as backbone of all the organizational
activities of HED.
 
Covers main functions including Manufacturing, Distribution and Finance.
 
Customized to handle other functions like Quality Management System, Payroll, Time
Management System, etc.
 
It covers all aspects starting from Order-to-Cash, which includes Planning, Procurement,
Production and Inventory Management.
 
Integrated with third-party tools like PDM and CCPM for design and planning activities
Also integrated with business intelligent tools like Cognos, IBPM, Workflow, etc
