A large amount of a child’s time is spent sitting in the classroom. The place that give
you process learning and teaching to improve your skill. As the place where students almost
spend a large of their time, the classroom should be flexible for supporting their activities.
So, they will be comfortable to gain and understand the lesson. Thus, it is important to pay
attention to the condition of the classroom. With the classroom being such an important
place in the growth of a child, it is important to understand the ways in which to affect this
That is why there are three factors which influence student learning based on classroom
The first reason is the condition of the classroom can influence the student’s
concentration. According to Hannah (2013:2), one of the first areas that make a noticeable
impact on student success is the physical environment of the classroom. It is clear that the
physical environment of the classroom should support their activities during learning and
teaching. The physical condition is like a window, a door, floor, wall, and etc. The condition of
the classrooms might be natural. The naturalness principle relates to the environmental
parameters that are required for physical comfort (Barret, 2015). However, not conducive
classroom can make the students feel disturbed. For example, the room has small size, with
the result that the class has bad circulation of the air. It makes the students not comfortable
Secondly, it is not only from the concentration side, but it is also from the
performance of the students. Like we know that almost every course have their activities in
the class. So it is necessary to make class flexible. Flexible here mean that the condition of
the class support for every activity in learning and teaching process. Since different room
arrangements serve different purposes, it is necessary for classrooms to have some degree of
flexibility (Higgins, Hall, et al, 2005). It is not only from physical view, but it also about the
design for example, like a colour of the wall. According to Barret (2015), room colour has an
effect on both emotions and physiology causing mood swings that can have an impact on the
performance of the students. For example, when the colour of the room is too dark for the
students. Not only about the colour, so the students cannot enjoy or concentrate during
learning and teaching process. The size of the room is not enough for the students to have
music class. It makes the activity of learning and teaching become not conducive.
The last reason is that the classroom environment which not good can make a case for
the students from health issues view. The environment of the classroom should be clean
enough, not only clean, it has to have a good circulation of the air and enough lighting. Barret
(2015) said that clearly from the literature it can be anticipated that the built environment of
the classrooms will have a great impact on pupil basic academic performance, health and
wellbeing. So, it is necessary to make the condition of the classroom conducive from
disturbing things. For example, there are rubbish on the floor in the classroom and also there
is not enough lighting in the class. It can make their eyes become sore and also diarrhoea
environment. The condition of the classroom can influence the concentration of the students.
Not only about the concentration, but it is also about the performance of the students during
learning and teaching. And the last factors is about health issues. It is better for the teacher or
conducive to students. With a good environment, students will comfort and focus to gain and
understand their lesson because the classroom is where the students develop what they want
their future to look like, as well as knowledge of the skills needed to reach that goal.
