Background of topic  Cigarette smoking started on XV century, when Columb


imported tobacco to Europe.
 Popular using of tobacco we are indebted Jaen Nicot
Villeman, the name of nicotine originate from his surname.
 Tobacco first was exploited like a drug, however now it is a
very harmful stimulant.

DEFINITION: A small roll of finely cut tobacco enclosed in a


wrapper of thin paper designed for smoking.
Central Idea There are few factors that affect the sales volume of cigarette
in Malaysia.

Description of data 1. The line graph shows the relationship between the amount of
billion sticks of cigarette and the numbers of years relating on
(Chart 1) the sales volume of Malaysia’s cigarette from 2011 to 2016
2. Based on the line graph shown from 2011 to 2014 there is
slightly decrease in a sales volume of cigarette from 13.5 to
13 billion sticks.
3. As we can see in 2014 until 2016 there is a dramatic falls
with the amount of cigarette from 13 to 10 billion sticks.
Analysis of data 4. Malaysia adopted its own MPL in January 2010, setting the
minimum retail price at 0.32 Ringgit (MYR; US$0.09) per
(Chart 1) cigarette, or MYR6.40 (US$1.88) per 20-stick pack .In April
2011, the Parliament raised the minimum price further to
MYR0.35 per cigarette, or MYR7.00 (US$2.31) per 20-stick
pack.
5. Price hikes intensified around the year 2014, and there was a
sharp decline of 12% in legalised sale of cigarettes. During
the most recent tax hike, prices for a pack of 20 cigarettes
rose from RM17 (US$4.02) to RM21.50 (US$5.08).

Description of data 1. Based on the line graph below, we can see that in year of
2011 till 2014, the sales volume of cigarette in Malaysia
(Chart 2) slightly fluctuates from 7.5 to 7 billion of stick.
2. It can be seen clearly that sales of illegal cigarette in
Malaysia rose rapidly in year 2014 till 2016.
Analysis of data 3. Illicit consumption makes up 11% of the domestic market in
in 2011, and 8% in 2013.
(Chart 2) 4. The government had oversimplified the problem by
assuming price hikes would decrease the cigarette
consumption in lower income families. However, with
cheaper alternatives available, the citizens turned to illegal
cigarettes with price tags of RM3 – RM8
