"Only he who keeps his eye fixed on the far horizon will find his right road." -Dag
Hammarskjold. This statement itself gives a popular belief that the key to discipline is to stop
giving excuses for giving up in what we are doing and we should keep on going ahead in life.
This relates to me when I look back in my life.
I always had curiosity to know how things work from my early childhood and science as a
subject fascinated me in my school days by providing answers to my curiosity. As a result
science became my favourite subject, so my innate interest in science and Mathematics along
with excellent analytical skills encouraged me to opt for science stream in higher secondary
school. I have scored aggregate 83.08 % in 10th grade and 83.00% in 12th grade. I was
convinced to pursue career in engineering because of the concepts and knowledge learned in
subjects of Physics and Mathematics during my higher secondary school. I completed my
bachelor's from Vidyavardhini's College of Engineering and Technology in July 2016 with
Mechanical engineering as a major.
I feel Engineering is a field which acts as a bridge between the imagination and reality. It is
the application of Science along with mathematical methods and empirical evidence to
innovation, Design, Construction and maintenance of machines and processes. I have secured
an aggregate of CGPI- 7.61 in my bachelor's course. During my course tenure, I gained
knowledge in the field of Production planning and control, Thermal engineering, Machine
design, Fluid mechanics, CAD/CAM/CAE and Renewable Energy sources. These subjects
have laid a strong base which will help me in future to understand the concepts and
knowledge involved in Industrial Engineering. Along with academics, I learned various life
defining values such as punctuality, honesty, smart-work, patience, focus which helped me in
evolving as a resolute individual.
I in a group of four members did a B.E project on "Design and Manufacturing Solutions
for Engineering Mine Plow Assembly (EMP)". The main objective of our project was to
make work processes quite easy and less tedious and ultimately increase profitability and
productivity. The Designing, analysis and simulation of prototype machine were done in 3-D
software which provided us with a practical exposure towards it. Through deep complex
calculations, we achieved accurate results. Our efforts were highly recognized and we
received full appraisal from peers and professors. I have also done a mini project on 'Line
following Robot using Arduino'. I also successfully submitted a detailed case study on 'Fuel
cells' as a part of my coursework.
I aspire to do the master's in industrial engineering not only because as I gained interests in
this field but also seeing a latest emerging industrial scenario in India. There has being a rapid
surge in foreign direct investment after the initiative taken by Government of India "MAKE
IN INDIA" to make India a 'Manufacturing hub' on the global stage. Hence, I predict an
enormous scope in industrial engineering in my country. I feel Industrial engineering deals
with the optimization of complex processes, systems and practices to achieve efficiency in
usage of resources and competitiveness for the manufactured items. This can be
accomplished by proper execution of operational research and optimizing Production
planning and control which is what I will be exposed to during my course in industrial
engineering. Moreover, after successful completion of my program, I have a strong desire to
serve in an industrial sector in my country.
