Title of Activity: In- Service Training on Teaching Strategies and Higher Order Thinking Skills

Objectives:

1. To reorient teachers on the different methodologies, approaches, strategies that involve critical
thinking;

2. To strengthen teaching skills of teachers to improve child-cantered quality education

3. To formulate activities that will enhance higher order thinking

Target Participants: 24 Teachers and 1 School Head of Sta. Maria Elementary School

Narrative Report:

Higher Order Thinking Skills( HOTS) are important aspect in teaching and learning. Thinking skills
are fundamental in education process. A person’s thought can affect the ability, speed and effectiveness
of learning ( Tanujaya, Mumu & Margono, 2017). In order to achieve this, SMES conducted an INSET to
address the need to re orient teachers on methods, approaches and strategies that involve and promote
critical thinking among learners.

The Inset started with a short opening program. The first speaker of the day is Ms. Wilma David,
she gave us insights on what Is HOTS is, followed by Ms. Jeanette Culala for Bloom’s Cognitive
Taxonomy. After a short break, the session continue with Ms. Aileen’s time on Teaching Strategies That
Enhance Higher Order Thinking skills. The session resume at 1 pm with Ms. Ofel’s Art of Questioning.
The committee for this inset requested us to make activities that uses HOTS as our workshop for the
day. The session concluded at 5 pm.

Title of Activity: LAC Session on Types of Assessment

Objectives:

1. To come to a common understanding of the meaning of Assessment FOR, OF, and AS learning

2. To familiarize oneself with the different type of assessment and use the alternative forms of
assessment in the learning process

3. To construct assessment tool that they can use in their classroom

Venue: Sta. Maria Elementary School

Target Participants: 24 Teachers and 1 School Head of Sta. Maria Elementary School

Narrative Report:

Assessment is an integral to the teaching – learning process, facilitating learning and improving
instruction and can take variety of form. The insight we gain by making assessment a regular part of
instruction enable us to meet the needs of the students who are eager for more challenges and to
provide intervention for those who are struggling( Burns, 2005)

Classroom assessment is generally divided into three types: Assessment for Learning, Assessment of
Learning and Assessment as Learning

In line with this, the school conducted LAC session on the Types of Assessment to update and let the
teachers be more acquainted with the assessment tools.

On the last day of the series of INSETs, the day started with a simple opening program. For the first
session, Ms. Edna Nidar elaborate what ASSESSMENT FOR LEARNING IS. It was then followed by Mr.
Arnel Culala with his session on ASSESSMENT OF LEARNING. After a short break, Ms. Shirley Culala
continued the session with her topic on ASSESSMENT AS LEARNING. Her session resume at 1 pm as it
was nearing the lunch break when her session in the morning started. ALTERNATIVE FORM OF
ASSESSMENT was then discussed by Ms. Christine. A workshop on making an assessment tool was then
facilitated. After collecting the outputs for the day, awarding of certificates among the participants of
the series of INSETs was then administered by the School Head.

As it was the end, teachers are positively hoping for the better and improvement of the performance
of the school and its clientele.

Objectives:

1. To update knowledge and skills of teachers in creating a positive learning environment

2. To help teachers reinforce classroom management strategies to establish engaging, productive


and positive learning environment for the learners

3. To guide them on how to improve/ enhance the physical environment of their classroom

Venue: Sta. Maria Elementary School

Target Participants: 24 Teachers and 1 School Head of Sta. Maria Elementary School

Narrative Report:

The importance of classroom management are for students to gain behavioural, social,
academic success in a structured environment that caters to tolerance, exemplary behaviour and
learning.

Teachers who believe their students to be capable, motivated learners will often give students
opportunities to take control of their learning and will encourage them to seek relevance in their
studies. These educators manage/ structure their classroom well.

In line with our staff development program, this INSET aims to update the teachers on
classroom management and structuring because a successful teacher knows how to manage and
structure their class.

The first day of the series of INSET was formally open by the School Head. The first speaker for
this session was Ms. Sheila, she tackle about the Definition, Importance and Impact of Classroom
Management and Structure. Followed by Ms. Marcy on the Styles, Techniques and Strategies used in
order to maintain orderliness inside the classroom. The teachers had their snacks in between the
sessions. At 1 pm, the session was resumed, the first speaker for the afternoon was Ms. Maricel who
dwell on Conducive attributes of the Physical Learning Environment. The last speaker of the day was Ms.
Jennifer, she had 2 sessions - Managing the Psychosocial Environment of the Classroom and Strategies
For Building a Positive Learning Environment. The workshop on making structuring materials was
facilitated by Ms. Sheila.

Title of Activity: School Based Roll – Out On Result Based performance Management System (RPMS)
Manual for Teachers and School Heads

Objectives:

1. To Introduce and orient teachers on the RPMS Manual for teachers and School Heads

2. To align the individual roles and targets of Teachers and School Heads with DepEd’s direction
guided by the RPMS Manual

3. To determine and adapt objectives and goals provided through the RPMS Manual and PPST to be
incorporated in the IPCRF of teachers.

Date: July 13 - 14, 2018

Venue: Sta. Maria Elementary School

Target Participants: 25 Teachers and 1 School Head of Sta. Maria Elementary School

Narrative Report:

The In-Service Training (INSET) on School-based performance Management System (RPMS)


Manual for Teachers and School Heads was held on July 13-14, 2018 at Sta Maria Elementary School.,
Sta. Ana Pampanga.

The training was conducted and facilitated by some selected teachers and our principal with the
different topics about School Based Roll Out on the Results Based Performance Management System
(RPMS) Manual for teachers and School Heads.

The said training was very successful because the teacher participants ere able to participate
actively. The objectives of the INSET were attained.
