I. Background of the Company

Pride and Prosper, Inc. is a company that pioneers in the manufacturing of

soaps and eventually became a household name. It launched its first beauty soap in the

30’s called Mild which then became a success due to the housewives hooked on daytime

dramas in the national television. Mild sponsored those shows and also has an

advertisement in radios and in print. Due to the success of Mild, Pride and Prosper, Inc.

decided to explore the field of manufacturing detergents, toothpastes, lotions and

shampoos. The company gave importance to brand management and new product

research and development which has been neglected by most companies that time.

II. Perspective

This is taken on the point of view of the Top Management.

IV. Statement of the objectives

• To decide what action plan to be made to stop sales decline.

• To increase its product distribution and sales.

• To be able to retain 30% of their workforce.

• To change the corporate culture as advised by the third party consultants.

V. Cardinal Issue

• The management team by Pride and Prosper, Inc. believes that the

corporate culture led by Dick Harrigan, CEO of the company, is

conservative, slow-moving and bureaucratic is also the reason of the

sales decrease and probable decrease of 30% of the 7,000 employees

in the workforce.

• The decline from 2.5% - 5% of sales over the last five years and is still

declining.

• The management is considering a joint venture with W Gum Company,

because of its massive distribution structure. Giligan’s Gum Company

manufactures gums, mint candies and breath fresheners.

• The company’s sales force is not aggressive that results to the decline

of their sales.

VI. Alternative Courses of Action

• Pride and Prosper, Inc. should pursue the joint venture with Giligan’s

Gum Company because it would give the company an increase in the

product distribution. Giligan’s Gum Company is a well established

company that has existing customers. The existing customers of that

company will help Pride and Prosper, Inc. to increase its market share

and have an access to greater resources. This will also help Pride and

Prosper, Inc. to adjust and to adopt in Giligan’s Gum Company’s

corporate culture.

• Pride and Prosper, Inc. should change their conservative, slow-moving

and bureaucratic culture into a fast-moving, modern, more fast paced

internet-savvy organization because in order for a company to survive,

it must be adaptive and flexible. It should conform with the changes

brought upon by modernization and technology. Innovation is a factor

that helps a company to achieve success. The company should seek

modernized and new schemes in order to discover new products that

will suit the needs and preference of the customers. It will also help the

company to be accessible and open to its customers. Being accessible

to its customers, the customers will be familiar and curious about the

company’s products and will eventually increase the sales of the

company. The company could also have an internet website in order to

reach out to probable customers.

• In order to stop the decline of sales, the company should hire qualified

sales person and IT experts because if the company hires people with

high qualifications when it comes to sales, they will be able to stop the

decline. The company should hire the right people and the most qualified

for the job. Sales talking contributes a great part on the company’s

revenue.

VII. Recommendation

Pride and Prosper, Inc. should consider adapting to modernization and

technology because in that way they can easily connect and reach out to their valued

customers. It is important to be open to any possibilities and improvements not only to

what is considered usual to the company. The company should take the risk to join the

world of modernization because as the world changes, the people in it changes too. In

order to succeed, the business must meet the expectations of these customers who

undergo in these kind of change because it’s the customers that keeps the business alive

not owners.
