Interpretation of Data and Results

Microwave Radio Link was done in this experiment conducting it with the use of different
tools of waveguide. Noticed that a Cowbell shaped like components are to be found in this
experiment. This is called Horn Antennas, this propagates the microwave signal through air. We
have two of those, one for transmitting and one is for receiving.

The first experiment was to align the two horns such that it has a distance of 35 centimeter
between them. This allows the antennas to send and receive microwave signal. The sensor display
the acquired current to the receiving part of the link which is 1.8 milli-ampere. Increasing the
distance between the links decreases the power acquired from the transmitting horn. This makes
sense since the distance that the microwave is being travelled increases it has a tendency to
attenuate due to leaks.

The second experiment was to use a metal plate to act as an interference. The group
aligned the two links to the maximum power acquired and place the plate in between them. The
plate is then lift so that it will interfere with the medium which in this case is the air. The data
shows that a certain height, almost below to the horn antenna, that the receiver acquire signal was
stronger. This happens because the metal plate acts as the medium of the wave bouncing from it
until it reach the antenna. The metal plate which is placed exactly between them show less power
acquire because it actually interfere to the half of the microwave.

The receiving antenna is then rotate 90 degrees and to see that the power acquired will be
zero. Since the transmitting antenna sends the signal in horizontal manner it is proven that there
will be no vertical signal will be acquired.

CONCLUSION

In this experiment, the wireless microwave transmission has been seen. This explains how
microwave propagate through free space and how other things affects it. Distance affect the power
acquired and this makes sense since microwave towers in real life must be in their line-of-sight,
microwave transmitters and receivers must be aligned, to be connected also they are not far from
each other leading in having more towers in an area.

The second part is how objects interfere the signal. Some condition helps the signal to
propagate while others attenuate it. Also when the signal was transmitted vertically the receiving
must be also in vertical position so that the signal will be fully acquired.
