DIDGERIDOO
EMOTIONAL PERCUSSION
Created by Troels Folmann and Mike Peaslee
The library contains two Didgeridoos recorded in a variety of ways that allows the user to
sculpt their own grooves. The “Didge” is an Australian Aboriginal wind instrument dating back
over approx.1500-2000 years. The instrument is made from Eucalyptus blogs hollowed out by
termites and is widely regarded as one of the oldest woodwind (aerophone) instruments in
existence. Tonehammer recorded two different Didges for maximum user flexibility. The first one
was is an original Eucaplyptus log and the second one is modern version made from PVC pipes.
The library contains over 400MB of samples and programs contain modwheel controlled
timestretching and sample offset options allowing users to get more flexibility out of the
samples. The Didges come at two different mic (close/medium) distances and a far mic for our
dual-didge FX group. Didge 1 is close mic and Didge 2 is medium mic.

INSTALLATION
TONEHAMMERDIDGERIDOO
You should now be able to open and play the .nki files. Be aware that
all of our .nki files are compatible with full retail versions of Kontakt 2
(version 2.2.4 or later) or Kontakt 3 (version 3.0 or later) only.
Note: Free Kompakt Players and Kontakt Players that come bundled
with DAW software, hardware or other sample libraries won't be
able to load ours or any other instrument library that didn't originally
come bundled with it. We're sorry, but it's the way Kontakt and
Kompakt Players work by design. However, since our wave directories
are open, you can translate the patches into whatever format you
like. There are a few conversion utilities available that can make the
translation process much easier, such as as CDXtract. Just make sure
you don't share them with others without asking. Each user must
purchase their own copy of this instrument from Tonehammer.
Pretty please.

DIDGE_1_PERCUSSIVE.NKI
These are a variety of very short (aprox. 0.5-1 sec) percussive articulations that can be combined in
realtime to sculpt rhythms. We also included a variety of “tapping” sounds where we are tapping the
didge, which is great for additional percussive effects.
TONEHAMMERDIDGERIDOO
DIDGE_1_PERCUSSIVE_MW_TS.NKI
The same patch as above (didge_1_percussive.nki), however with modwheel (MW) control over
time-stretch (TS). This allows you to manipulate the sounds to become longer or shorter by adjusting
the modwheel.
The patch includes a variety of very short (aprox. 0.5-1 sec) percussive articulations that can be
combined in realtime to sculpt rhythms. We also included a variety of “tapping” sounds where we are
tapping the didge, which is great for additional percussive effects.

DIDGE_1_SUST_MW_NO_VARI.NKI
These are sustained notes in 5 major categories spread across the octaves on the keyboard. You can
control the level of air (piano, mezzo-piano, mezzo-forte and forte) by using the modwheel (MW).
The MW crossfades between velocity layers, but note that all layers have no specific variation.
Hint: This patch is best for drones, since there is no significant variations in the different layers.
Hint: Try to load instrument two times into your samples and lower the pitch 12-24 tones on one of
the instances. The doubling can sound amazingly powerful and big. Power drones.

DIDGE_1_SUST_MW_W_PARTIAL_VARI.NKI
These are sustained notes in 5 major categories spread across the octaves on the keyboard. You can
control the level of air (piano, mezzo-piano, mezzo-forte and forte) by using the modwheel (MW).
The MW crossfades between velocity layers. The two lower velocity layers (P, MP) have no variation,
but the upper layers (MF, F) have variation.
Hint: This patch allows the user to sculpt certain phrases by adjusting MW between the two main
type of articulations.

DIDGE_1_SUST_MW_W_VARI.NKI
These are sustained notes in 5 major categories spread across the octaves on the keyboard. You can
control the level of air (piano, mezzo-piano, mezzo-forte and forte) by using the modwheel (MW).
The MW crossfades between velocity layers. All the velocity layers have a great deal of variation, so
this patch is more lively then the sustained without variation.
Hint: This patch allows users to truly sculpt unique rhythms out of the didge. Try to experiment with
the 5 major categories across the keyboard and use MW to find that sweet spot.

DIDGE_2_MW_SO_PERF_1.NKI
These are a variety of small performance patches that allows the user to sculpt rhythms by combined
different performances in real-time. The real power of the patch comes from using the modwheel,
which adjust the off-set on the sample. This means that the modwheel is associated to the starting
point of the sample. If you move the wheel “up” you will go deeper into any given performance. You
can essentially create a rhythm out of one sample by adjusting the modwheel in realtime and “surf”
through the sample off set times. The patch also includes “tapping”, which allows for more normal
type of percussive tracks.

DIDGE_2_MW_SO_PERF_2.NKI
These are another set of performance patches that allows the user to sculpt rhythms by combined
different performances in real-time. The real power of the patch comes from using the modwheel,
which adjust the sample off-set (SO) on the sample. This means that the modwheel is associated to
the starting point of the sample. If you move the wheel “up” you will go deeper into any given
performance. You can essentially create a rhythm out of one sample by adjusting the modwheel in
realtime and “surf” through the sample off set times. The patch also includes “tapping”, which allows
for more normal type of percussive tracks.
Hint: Try to combine the didge_2_mw_so_perf_1 and didge_2_mw_so_perf_2 patches for the most
flexible type of rhythm sculpting.
TONEHAMMERDIDGERIDOO
Hint: This patch is best for drones, since there is no significant variations in the different layers.
Hint: Try to load instrument two times into your samples and lower the pitch 12-24 tones on one of
the instances. The doubling can sound amazingly powerful and big. Power drones.

DUAL_DIDGE_AND_SESSION_FX.NKI
This patch is contains a more experimental set of didgeridoo sounds by combining the two Didges.
The Didges were recorded together in a far microphone position, which gives a more full,
atmospheric sound to them. In addition we blew very strongly into the didges, which gives a more
fog-horn like texture. The patch also includes samples from the recording session - some funny -
some more serious - to give insight into the recording sessions.
