CLASS : CS2445A
GROUP MEMBERS :
1. Assume the following activities for a project along with their estimated durations and
predecessors.
F G

C E
i. Describe how critical path analysis would be applied to this project, and calculate
the critical path.
The critical path analysis would be applied to this project by find the longest
path that have the shortest time project that can be completed and have zero
slack (or float) in the project.
Path 1 A+B+D+F+G 12
2+4+1+3+2
Path 2 A+B+D+E+F+G 13
2+4+1+1+3+2
Path 3 A+C+D+F+G 11
2 + 3 +1 + 3 + 2
Path 4 A+C+D+E+F+G 12
2+3+1+1+3+2
Path 5 A+C+E+F+G 11
2+3+1+3+2
ii. Define the concepts: slack/float, expedite/crash, and fast tracking and explain what
their implications are for this project?
Slack/float is the amount of time on activity can be delayed that is take longer
than expected before it delays the project. The implication is it can influence
project manager’s decision.
The fast tracking is doing two or several activities that were originally planned to
be completed at the same time can shorten the critical path. The implication is
project schedule shorten.
2. Three team members are given the task of estimating activity durations. Mr.
Optimist estimates the activity to take 2 days to complete. Ms. Pessimist estimates the
activity to take 5 days. Mrs. Realist claims that the most likely estimate is 4 days.
What should their PERT analysis assign as an expected duration for the activity and
what are the benefits and implications of deploying this tool?
= 3.833 days
Benefits : The benefits of PERT are its enables the business managers to predict
time and cost of the project in advance and it suggest areas for increasing
efficiency and reducing cost.
