CONTEXT
Discovery and Geosciences (GDG) delivers value for Anglo American via safe discovery of new mineral
endowment; delivery of step-change operational geosciences in our mines; and quantification and
communication of our Mineral Resources and endowment.
PURPOSE
The purpose of this role is to ensure regional Discovery activities are carried out in accordance with Anglo
American policies and procedures by providing a full range of administrative and technical support to the
Regional Head of Discovery – Americas, and the Discovery Manager – Central Andes.
TYPICAL TASKS
Americas Region:
• Manage month-end, quarter-end, and year-end financial close in accordance with corporate reporting
deadlines.
• Compile monthly regional technical reports.
• Monitor and advise Regional Head on budget tracking (outlook) and provide advice on re-allocations.
• Manage where required confidentiality and potentially other agreements with third parties: coordinate
meetings with third parties; liaise with legal for the review/approval of legal documents; and, prepare the
documents for the manager’s final review and sign-off.
• Support the Regional Head and Discovery Manager Central Andes with: HR (reporting, production of role
profiles, new hires, wages, etc.), Legal (both local and Corporate, regarding contracts and any additional
tasks), Compliance (such as updating the Discovery/Mining Property risk matrix), etc. These tasks involve
significant liaison with colleagues in the Copper Business.
• Be the principal point of contact with the Copper Business for day to day coordination on HR, Supply
Chain and Finance issues.
• Lead all Business Integrity compliance requirements: ensure that everyone has completed the mandatory
training; documentation for external and internal audits; and, reply to local or Corporate BI requests.
• Full involvement in current projects in the Americas to understand each project´s goals and issues.
• Understand Mineral Rights issues across the region.
• Willingness to take on ad-hoc projects outside of the job description with a “can-do” attitude
Central Andes:
• Support the project leaders and Discovery Manager on the preparation of all new contracts, coordinating
with Supply Chain and SAP (Copper Business).
• Acquire full competence at managing the local reporting and accounting system (SAP).
• Support Central Andes on the implementation of the new Permitting IT Tool, particularly on the reporting
and communications side.
• Be involved in the Minimum Permitting Requirements (MPR) yearly status update (this requires working
with Copper permitting and sustainability teams).
ROLE RELATIONSHIPS
Managerially Accountable to: Regional Head of Discovery – Americas with a dotted line to the Discovery
Manager – Central Andes.
Key External Relationships: Potential JV partners, peer companies, research institutions, government
authorities (elected officials, mines departments, geological surveys, permitting authorities), independent
consultants, key contractors and service providers, NGOs, industry forums and professional bodies
Direct Reports (if applicable): Administration Coordinator, Chile. Dotted line to Administration staff in
Central Andes.
Role-specific experience:
• Proven relevant administrative and technical experience in a team environment
• Proven relevant experience working in support of senior management
• Proven relevant experience in a multinational corporation is desirable
• Prior relevant experience in the mining or resources sector is required
• Prior relevant experience working with external exploration-related contractors
Safety:
• Knowledge of safety policies, procedures and the important role of consistently
demonstrating required behaviours and championing safety values
• Provides a consistent outstanding role model in relation to safety practices with
a deep understanding of the importance of safety
Technical Skills Ability to:
• Assess and apply appropriate exploration tools, techniques and methods.
• Apply mineral systems approach to exploration.
