LETTER OF INTENT

During my school days, my projects at the science fare were always unique and the appreciation
for new ideas emanating from my projects, from everybody gave me the boost to stick to science
and to work out new ideas on the path of science. By the time I completed my higher secondary
education, I was very sure that my future lay in science, especially connected to understanding
the marvels of machines. My predilection and a passion for developing new technologies, saw
me opt for an undergraduate degree in Mechanical Engineering.

Being in India and the rural place where I live has severe scarcity of power supply. As our
country is primarily dependent on thermal power plants which require a large amount of water
for boiling and cooling reservoirs, the paucity of which causes these power failures. All these
aspects raised a lot of questions in me and made me feel why not develop something beneficial
for the country and also the world through which there can be power generated at a minimum
use of raw materials like usage of small amount of coal, less water usage and many more material
aspects. At that time my mind was struck with an idea of developing sustainable energy resource
which would help the people in the world to utilize electricity which is only required for their use
instead of wasting it. For this reason, the best solution I thought of was the usage of renewable
energy resources which would mainly reduce the production cost and also the maintenance cost.

Among all the major subjects in Mechanical Engineering, ‘Thermodynamics’ held my attention,
‘Heat Transfer’, ‘Fluid Machinery’ helped me understand the making and working of turbines.
The subject also enhanced my knowledge for Pyschrometry. I also came to know how to draw a
vector triangle for solving problems related to turbines.

I realized that new technology is of no use if it not sustainable. Further, my interest was held by
the depleting energy resources and I gained a deeper predilection for sustainability and renewable
energy. With my unbridled passion for Thermodynamics, Design and Fluid Flow, I am confident
that Renewable Energy Technology would provide me the apt platform for engrossing
challenges and a wide scope for research. I am deeply intrigued by the design of new
technologies in the realm of renewable energy and learning more about this wonderful field of
study, so full of promises to improve the world, would be my prime objective for completing an
MS with a focus on Renewable Energy.

My interest in Chalmers University of Technology is because it provides expertise in the

bridging technologies and systems that will characterize the professional careers of energy
engineers in the coming decades. The Master’s programme offered by the university not only
focuses on analysing the present and expected future energy systems and technologies, it also
covers the transition between them.

I believe that the Master of Science program at Chalmers University, with its focus on
Sustainable Energy is the ideal fit for me. It is best suited to help me achieve my career goals,
especially since Professor Simon Harvey’s work on ‘Methodology development for long-term
assessment of economic and climate-change impact of energy projects in industrial energy
systems (with an emphasis on Bio refineries and CHP)’, matches my area of interest. I see
myself as a part of a R&D team or a PhD scholar, creating solutions to real life problems based
on data sciences that would reach the remote corners of the world. For my aspirations to
materialise, I request the admission committee to approve my application.
