SAM- Good morning everyone.

I am very happy to begin todays discussion on

the topic digital india. Digital India programme was Launched by the
Government of India on July 1, 2015, the initiative aims to connect citizens
through electronic means and improve online infrastructure, internet connectivity
and empower people digitally in the field of technology.
SANTOSH- One of the main features of digital India is to provide universal
access to mobile connectivity through which people can get good network
coverage in urban as well as rural areas.
VERAVEL- Digital India also helps in providing public internet access at low
cost. For example computer along with internet connection is provided in gram
panchayat library at a very low cost which can be easily accessed by rural people.
VENUGOPAL- E-Kranti - This is a mobile-first technologies approach. As per
this initiative, public programmes will be integrated on a single portal and
technology is to be used for implementation and grievance redressal systems.
This also includes E-healthcare, E-education and many other programme.
SRINIVASAN- E-governance is also one of the main feature where various
government services are provided via internet and mobile application. For
example one can easily get various certificates such as patta, aadhar card without
going to taluk office which can save a lot of time.
SUJITH- E-education is also funded by central government and carried forward
by various central institutes such as IIT’s and NIT’s Through a website called as
nptel where a large varieties of course is offered in various field at free of cost.
SETHUPATHI- The main advantage of digital India is saving time of individual
persons by reducing the waiting time required to get documents at taluk office by
making it possible to get documents through online portal.
SUJITH- Since digital India reduces the dependencies on paper document by
digitalising document, which helps in saving trees.
VERAVEL- Digital India also helps rural students to get high quality of
education from premium institutes via online web portal which can accessed free
of cost.
VENUGOPAL- It has also increased the speed of online transaction which results
in reduced effort to handle physical currency which at some times can be difficult.
SANTOSH- Due to digital India many employment has been generated such as
self-employment by opening a government authorised E-Service centre and
employment is also generated via make in India program.
SRINI- Digital India has also resulted in increase in number of start-up related to
Digital payment sector and E-Commerce sector which has significantly resulted
in increase in overall GDP of the country.
SAM- Nowadays there is a facility to store all the documents online thus reducing
the effort to protect and store them safely physically. Since these documents can
be stored in cloud one can easily access them anywhere at any time.
SUJITH- Even tax can be paid online within few minutes thus reducing the time
for payment and have made the process easier, which has visibly resulted in
increase in amount of tax collected.
SRIDHAR- Due to online payment option and many digital wallet applications,
which came after digital India initiative, resulted in decreased dependency of
physical money.
SUJITH- There is also a major drawback associated with digital India ie..
Hacking. Since all the data’s are stored online, there is a possibility that these
data’s can be hacked and vital information’s can be leaked online which can affect
the privacy of both individual as well as to the country.
SETHUPATHI- Rural people are still not clear about this digital India concept
and still don’t know how to use internet effectively.
VENUGOPAL- Fake news also started to spread easily via various social media
platforms which has resulted in lot of defamation individuals and in some extreme
cases also death.
VERAVEL- Keeping aside the advantages and disadvantages there are a lot of
challenges in successfully implementing this digital India concept for example
there is visibly less coordination among various government departments which
ultimately leads to lack of information exchange.
SAM- Implementation cost is also very high since a large number of servers are
needed which involves a lot of money and maintenance cost is very high.

CONCLUSION
Even though there are lot of advantage and disadvantage in implementing digital
India, once digital India is successfully implemented it would greatly improve the
lifestyle of the citizens.
