NOTICE
Greater Ouachita Water Company (GOWC) provides notice that its rates for water and
wastewater service will increase effective with bills issued on or after April 22, 2019. GOWC
also provides notice that with the rate change, the gallons included in the base charges will
decrease for meters 1” and larger. The new rates will remain in place for a twelve-month
period (“Phase 1”). Following Phase 1, GOWC’s water and wastewater base charges will be
reduced (“Phase 2”). GOWC will send another notice prior to implementing Phase 2 rates.
The two-phase rate change was approved by the Louisiana Public Service Commission on
March 20, 2019.
The rate increase will allow GOWC to fund necessary capital improvements to water
and wastewater facilities. The improvements include a $9M investment in an advanced
water meter system (which provides customers with real time access to usage data and
eliminates the need for meter readers), $20.3 M for wastewater capital improvements
required by the Louisiana Department of Environmental Quality, and an additional $2M in
other projects to improve reliability and quality of service. A new bond issuance will permit
GOWC to refinance existing debt on more favorable terms.
