Shaaark Hooded Scarf

Materials For Shark Version

Yarn: worsted weight gray yarn (360 yards), small amount of white, red (optional)
Sample was made with two shades of gray, dark and light.
Note: yarn measurements are approximate and will vary upon gauge, size and brand.

Crochet Hooks: H, I

Miscellaneous: yarn needle, 2 small black buttons, black thread, sewing needle

Gauge: 4 inches = 13 hdc and 9 rounds

Sizes: Child (5-8), Preteen/ Adult

This is designed for children ages 5-8.

Scarf:
The scarf is created in 2 halves and then joined at the neck. Make 2. One scarf half will be longer than
the other so stripe pattern can continue.

1. With I hook and dark gray worsted weight yarn, start with a magic circle of 6 sts (or preferred
method for starting a circle of 6 sc sts), pull closed and place marker for working in the round.
2. 2sc in next st, sc 5. (7sts)
3. 2sc in next st, sc 6. (8sts)
4. 2sc in next st, sc 7. (9sts)
5. *2sc in next st, sc 2*, repeat to end of round. (12sts)
6. *hdc 3, 2hdc in next st*, repeat to end of round. (15sts)
7. *hdc 4, 2hdc in next st*, repeat to end of round. (18sts)
8. *hdc 5, 2hdc in next st*, repeat to end of round. (21sts)
9. *hdc 6, 2hdc in next st*, repeat to end of round. (24sts)
10. *hdc 7, 2hdc in next st*, repeat to end of round. (27sts)

21. This step starts the scarf and is worked back and forth in rows. Ch 2, turn, hdc in same st and in
next 17 sts. (18sts)
22-25. Ch 2, turn, hdc in same st and in next 17 sts.
26. Change to light grey yarn. Ch 2, turn, hdc in same st and in next 17 sts.
27-30. Ch 2, turn, hdc in same st and in next 17 sts.

31. Change to dark grey yarn. Ch 2, turn, hdc in same st and in next 17 sts.
32-35. Ch 2, turn, hdc in same st and in next 17 sts.

36. Change to light grey yarn. Ch 2, turn, hdc in same st and in next 17 sts.
37-40. Ch 2, turn, hdc in same st and in next 17 sts.

41. Change to dark grey yarn. Ch 2, turn, hdc in same st and in next 17 sts.

48. Ch 2, turn, hdc2tog (same and next st), hdc 14, hdc2tog. (16sts)
49-50. Ch 2, turn, hdc in same st and in next 15sts.

51. Change to dark grey yarn. Ch 2, turn, hdc in same st and in next 15 sts.
52-55. Ch 2, turn, hdc in same st and in next 15 sts.

56. Change to light grey yarn. Ch 2, turn, hdc in same st and in next 15 sts.
57-60. Ch 2, turn, hdc in same st and in next 15 sts. End here for first half of scarf. Finish off and weave
in end (for first half only).

61. Change to dark grey yarn. Ch 2, turn, hdc in same st and in next 15 sts.
62-65. Ch 2, turn, hdc in same st and in next 15 sts.
Finish off, leaving a long tail for sewing halves together.

Stack scarves together with mitt openings together. With yarn needle and yarn tail, sew scarves
together.
Set scarf aside and continue with hood pattern.

Hood
1. With I hook and dark gray worsted weight yarn, ch 66, hdc in 3rd ch from hook and across
2. Ch 2, turn, hdc in same st and in each st to end of row. (64sts)
3. Repeat previous row 19 times.
4. Change to red yarn. Working in BLO, ch 1, turn, sc in each st to end of row.
5-6. Ch 1, sc in each st to end of row.
Finish off and weave in end.

Fold hat in half, length wise. With grey yarn and yarn needle sew back (starting) edge together. Turn
hood inside out so seam is on the inside of hood.

Fold scarf in half to find center back of neck. With right sides together, line up center back of hood and
center back of scarf neck. Pin in place. With a yarn needle and yarn tail, sew the hood to the scarf.
Finish off and weave in tails.

Stack scarves together with mitt openings together. With yarn needle and yarn tail, sew scarves
together.
Set scarf aside and continue with hood pattern.

Hood
1. With I hook and dark gray worsted weight yarn, ch 70, hdc in 3rd ch from hook and across
2. Ch 2, turn, hdc in same st and in each st to end of row. (68sts)
3. Repeat previous row 21 times.
4. Change to red yarn. Working in BLO, ch 1, turn, sc in each st to end of row.
5-6. Ch 1, sc in each st to end of row.
Finish off and weave in end.

Fold hat in half, length wise. With grey yarn and yarn needle sew back (starting) edge together. Turn
hood inside out so seam is on the inside of hood.

Fold scarf in half to find center back of neck. With right sides together, line up center back of hood and
center back of scarf neck. Pin in place. With a yarn needle and yarn tail, sew the hood to the scarf.
Finish off and weave in tails.

Teeth
Note: count for preteen-adult sizes are in ( )

Make sure top of hat is towards you. This step is worked around the posts of the first red row (which
was worked in BLO of last gray row). With H hook and white yarn, sl st around 4th (6th) post from right
end of hood, *sc 5, ch 1, turn, sc2tog, sc, sc2tog. Ch 1, turn, sc 3. Ch 1, turn, sk 1, sc2tog. Ch 1, turn.
Sl st in same st. Sc 3 down side of tooth, sl st in last st of first row of tooth. Sl st around next 2 posts*,
repeat across hat until 4 (6) sts remain.

Finish off and weave in ends. Use fingers to shape teeth if needed.

Eyes (make 2):

1. With H hook and white yarn, ch 5, sc in 2nd ch from hook and in each ch across. (4sts)
2. Ch 1, turn, sc 3, 2sc in last st. (5sts)
3. Ch 2, turn, 2hdc in same st, hdc, sc 3. (6sts)
4. Ch 1, turn, 2sc in same st, sc 3, hdc, 2hdc. (8sts)
5. Ch 2, turn, hdc 4, sc 4.
6. Ch 1, turn, sc 7, (sc, ch 1, sc) in last st. Finish off, leaving a tail for sewing eye in place.
With yarn needed and yarn tails, sew eyes to hood.
