Q.2: Answer any SEVEN parts. All parts carry equal marks.

i. Define the number π and show that 2π radians= 360°.
ii. Carry out the following conversions.
(a) Calculate the density 1.33 x 10-17 g cm-3 into Kg m3.
(b) Calculate a speed of 20 ms-1 in Km h-1.
iii. Explain with the help of example, what is the range of possible values of resultant of two
vectors?
iv. Differentiate b/w scalar and vector product of two vectors.
v. A 4 Kg ball travelling with a speed of 2 ms-1 strikes a rigid wall and rebounds elastically. If the
ball is in contact with the wall for 0.05 s, What is the momentum imparted to the wall and
average force exerted on the wall.
vi. A 70 Kg ball travelling at a speed of 9 ms-1 to the right collides with another ball of 140g which is
initially at rest. Find their velocities after collision.
vii. A 70 Kg athlete runs up stairs in 4s. The vertical height of stairs is 4.5 m. Calculate the power. .
viii. What happens to the kinetic energy of bullet when it penetrates into the target?
ix. A motor car is travelling at a speed of 30 ms-1. If its wheel has a diameter of 1.5m, find its
angular speed rad s-1 and rev s-1.
x. A cylinder of 50 cm diameter at the top of an incline 29.4 cm high and 10m long is released and
rolls down the incline. Find its linear and angular speed at the bottom. Neglect air friction.

i. Explain the motion of paratrooper with the help of terminal velocity.


ii. Calculate the speed of effect of kerosene oil from a narrow hole of a tank, in which pressure is 4
atm. Density of kerosene oil is 0.72 Kg m-3. ( one atmospheric =1.03 x 105 Pa.
iii. Explain why in S.H.M the acceleration is zero when the velocity is greatest.
iv. What will be the frequency of simple pendulum if its length is 1m?
v. A sting of guitar 1.3 m long vibrates with 4 nodes, 2 of them at the two ends. Find the
wavelength and speed of the wave in the string if it vibrates at 500 Hz.
vi. Why does a sound travel faster in solid than gasses?
vii. How can you explain Brewster’s law of polarization?
viii. A diffraction grating has 5000 lines per centimeter. At what angle does the second order
spectrum of sodium yellow light of wavelength 589 nm occur?
ix. Can specific heat of a gas be zero or infinity? Can specific heat be negative?
x. A reversible engine works between two temperatures whose difference is 100 °C. If it absorbs
746 J of heat from source and rejects 546 J to the sink, calculate the temperature of the source
and the sink.

i. (a) Define simple harmonic motion. Prove that how law of conservation of energy is applicable
in case of simple harmonic motion.
(b) Explain the diffraction of X-rays by crystal using Bragg’s law.

ii. (a) Calculate the speed of sound in air using isothermal and adiabatic process.

(b) What is Doppler Effect? Explain the following cases of doppler’s effect When
(i) Source is moving, and listener is at rest.
(ii) Source is at rest and listener is moving.

iii. (a) What is Carnot Engine? Explain its all working steps, graphical sketch and also calculate its
efficiency.
(b) prove that Cp - Cv = R
