INSTALL PLANET PINION CARRIER ASSEM.
BLY AND CHECK ROLLING DRAG TORQUE ?;i
IMPORTANT: lf arle shaft or inner axle bearing was
removed trom the axle housing, adiust
axle bearing end play betore checking
rolling drag torque. The torque specified
seats the axle bearings and provides the
specified drag torque while llattening the
lead balls. The thickness o{ the lead ba s
is the correct shim pack. lf excessive
shim pack is instatted, a gap is created
between lhe inner cone and planetary
carrier. Since the bearings have a tight fit
on the axle shafl,an accurate rolling drag
lorque cannot be read. Bolting drag tor-
que will be within specification, but after
the final drive unit is operated on the
traclor, the inner bearing willwork inwa.d
against the planetary carrier.
This resull of excessive shim oack will
lead to early bearing failure. To avoid this
possibility of error! drive or press the
shafl out to achieve end play before
installing shims and carrier.
