• The idea of the design was to use light in a
way that would strengthen the power of
spirituality.
Related With Intensity Of Light Of Temple.
• Entrance at north-east is always in shade which is compared with Ardha mandap.
• Acute-angled triangle is compared with Sabha mandap where walls are illuminated.
• The openings created by the tilted wall are compared with windows in Sabha mandap.
• Due to low intensity of light the cross is emphasized and the altar is compared with Garbha ghruha .

• AR. DHARLES CORREA’S CHALLENGE WAS TO EXPRESS THE THREE CULTURAL IDENTITIES
THATMHAVE CONTEMPORARY INDIA.
• HE CREATED A SERIES OF THREE COURTYARDS REPRESENTING THE THREE COSMIC FOCAL
POINTS.
• AS INDIAN TEMPLES HAS AT ENTRANCE ARDH MANDAP, SABHA MANDAP, GARBH GRIHA.
• IT WAS OPENED IN 1993 THE LIBRARY BUILDING DISPLAYS A UNIQUE MURAL BY HOWARD
HODGKIN ON THE FAÇADE SYMBOLISING A BANYAN TREE ALONG WITH A SCULPTURE BY
STEPEHN COX CALLED THE ‘DESENT OF THE GANGES’.
• THIS PLACES ONE THE FEW PLACES WHERE ONE CAN READ BOOKS IN COMFORT AND SILENCE.
• MATERIALS : WALLS RED SANDSTONE, SCULPTURES BLACK ROCK QUERRIED FROM
MAHABALIPURAM.
