Introduction
In this report, we will be analysing 12 different websites based on several criteria. Our goal is
to find out how websites differ across cultures and countries, and what may be the
standards in general. As all four of us are from Belgium, we decided to look for 12 websites
from 12 different countries spread across the globe. On top of that, we looked for different
sectors as well.
We based our analysis on four criteria:
Content: in what way are things made clear about the company, their vision and mission,
goals and prospects, etc.
Functionality: how easy is it to navigate through the website, what are some pros and cons,
big advantages or strong barriers. For which people is more accessible, or is it for everyone.
Authority: how does it compare with other websites, being in the respective country or all
over the world. What are they doing better, what not.
Attractiveness: does it appeal to the eye, it is necessary to be attractive.
At the end of our report a conclusion will follow.
Website Analysis
https://ab-inbev.be/

AbInbev, Belgium

(AbInbev, sd)

Content
AbInbev is the largest brewery chain in the world, residing in Leuven. They have a wide
range of brands and conquer the beer market, with their main breweries in West-
Europe. This clearly shows on their website, because you could click through it for hours.
On top of that, if you look for breweries or beers that AbInbev acquisitioned and you
click on their site, you get forwarded to the AbInbev site. Everything is very well arranged
and easy to find. With this website, you get to know everything there is to know about
the company.

Functionality
The website is simple to navigate through, as it divides itself into different topics which
each have their own sub-topics. These can be accessed by a drop down menu which
makes it really structured and nice to traverse the site. One disadvantage of the site is
that it only translates to French, which is weird for such a large multinational.

Authority
It depends if we look on a general level website-wise, or specifically to websites in the
beer market. In general, it’s not that different from other websites. These days, many
companies know how to make a decent website with good functionality levels (especially
big companies). If we look specifically to the beer market, they have an outstanding site.
Others don’t really focus on making it appealing and easy to navigate through, AbInbev
does.
Attractiveness
As of the moment you reach the landing page, you know it’s an attractive website. There
are a lot of illustrations and videos, with surrounding news articles and social media
extensions. The colors are simple, but in our opinion that’s good for a website. Apart
from white, they use the colors of their logo.

https://mybroadband.co.za/news/

MyBroadband, South Africa

(MyBroadband, sd)

Content
My Broadband is a news website focusing on IT, technology and business tech. They post
up to 20 posts a day with over 8 million page views every day, so it shows that they’re
the largest IT-website in South Africa. Their articles are relevant to all IT-related topics
and reach all aspects of the mentioned subject. Apart from different topics and subtopics
(which also has a page “breaking news”), they have pages about events, deals and polls.

Functionality
Good navigation and accessibility is probably most important for news websites. Like
most news websites, My Broadband managed to do this. Such a large variety of topics
can be a bit daunting for people to look for what they’re interested in, but because of
dropdown menus with subtopics this problem has been avoided. The landing page shows
to most trending and latest articles, there’s a breaking news page for people who are
interested in the most important things and those only interested in specific topics can
find these in the dropdown menus. They have some extensions to their social media
pages, which definitely is of added-value.
Authority
My Broadband’s website is not so distinctive from other news websites, but it’s hard to
distinguish yourself in this area of expertise. Same goes for the IT-business they’re in.
However, regional wise (in their topic field) they are doing pretty well. Not many (news)
websites in South Africa are so well made as My Broadband’s. Obviously, that’s why they
are so popular.

Attractiveness
Apart from the colorful surrounding ads, the website is a bit plain. Then again, most
news websites are and it shows a kind of professionalism to their work. Their focus is on
the content of the articles, and for people interested in their items that’s probably the
most important thing.

https://www.hbgrandi.com/

HB Grandi, Iceland

(HB Grandi, sd)

Content
HB Grandi is one of the largest seafood companies in Iceland. It’s widely known because
it already exists 15 years and because of their high-quality products, focus on the
environment and ecosystem, and emphasis on CSR. They have an extensive website full
of information for everyone who wants to learn about their company. They talk about
where and how they fish, show plenty of numbers of how much they fish for every sort
of fish, so that the viewer can follow every step they make. Apart from their products,
they also show how it’s been processed. Finally, they release an annual report on
sustainability, probably one of their biggest advantages.
Functionality
Functionality-wise, it’s fairly good. For every topic, they have a different page (each of
which can be reached through a dropdown menu). That’s about it. If you land on of their
pages, you have to look for the things you’re actually interested in. This could be
resolved with subtopics for each page. However, they do have search engine, which
makes the previously mentioned problem tedious for people who know what they’re
looking for. On top of that, their landing page already shows two of their most important
factors: their products and the sustainability report, both can be reached by clicking
through it.

Authority
When looking for other seafood companies and their websites, in and out of Iceland, HB
Grandi’s site isn’t that different. What brought our attention, is that all of the websites
are pretty concise. They all get to the point, and that’s it. Maybe it’s an industry thing,
we don’t know. This makes HB Grandi slightly better, because they go a bit more into
detail about all of their topics.

Attractiveness
In our opinion, it’s one of the better websites based on looks. Simple colors that reflect
the company’s country of origin, which definitely is a nice touch. The first thing you say
on the landing page is a large picture of Reykjavik’s skyline with a boat of HB Grandi. A
lot of websites have this, but this picture in particular gave us a sense of purity and
reliability of the company.

http://www.proletarsky.ru/en/

JSC “Proletarsky zavod”, Russia

(JSC “Proletarsky zavod”, sd)

Content
For content the website scores very good. A lot of insight is giving about how the company
works, the history behind the company, what they represent today, which licenses they have,
... The text that explains all off these cases is written in good English. The company is
specialized in marine and power engineering, they develop and upgrade large parts of the
navy’s fleet. So, most part of this company is Business to Government oriented.

Functionality
First of all, the website is available in Russian and English which is a always helpful, a the top
of the website there a number of drop down lists to help you find what you desire to know.
At the contact tab there is a map so you can clearly see where the company is situated. But
they could have made a link to email so you can send an email directly through there site
without having to copy paste the email address.

Authority
The company does have a huge impact on other companies in the sector, because we think
that the government doesn’t buy different parts for 1 boat from different suppliers. Also,
when given a quick search through internet you do not immediately find another company
selling marine engineering to the government.

Attractiveness
The first glance you get from the site doesn’t look all too good. It has an unattractive view to
it, also it looks like an outdated site that hasn’t been updated in a few number of years. There
are some pictures as to situate what the company does, which helps but definitely isn’t
enough.

http://www.harveynormanholdings.com.au/

Harvey Norman, Australia

(Harvey Norman, sd)

Content
Harvey Norman is a company that operates under a franchise system in Australia. That’s why
you won’t find any products on their site. Their website must be interesting for independent
proprietors who are interested in owning a franchise. The products these proprietors sell is in
a range of following categories: electrical goods, furniture, computerised communications,
bedding and Manchester, kitchen appliances, small appliances, bathroom and tiles, carpets
and flooring.

Functionality
Easy to use website, all the different pages have easy to read information on them. Also finding
something you are interested in speaks for itself. If you are interested in their stocks, you can
even find those on a different tabloid on their website. What we think that was really lacking
was the number of franchisees they have and where they were situated.
Authority
Harvey Normal Holdings Limited has retail stores all over Australia on a franchises base.
There are more then 220 Harvey Normal stores spread over 8 countries across the world.
The brand is recognised as the leading homemaker destination of choice especially in
Australia.

Attractiveness
This website is a great example of a beautiful site. Because of the basic smooth blue/grey
colours it gives a relaxed feeling. We guess they opted for this feeling because it’s a company
that sells items for your household. Overall the site looks great.

https://www.theheinekencompany.com/Age-gate.aspx?returnurl=%2f

Heineken, The Netherlands

(Heineken, sd)

Content
Heineken is the second largest beer company in the world, at number stands AB-InBev. But
they are known to be the number one brewery in Europe. As expected from a firm this big
they supply you with all the information you need to know on their website. From the different
products they sell to subsidiary firms they own. How many euro’s their shares go for. And what
other projects they support around the globe.
Functionality
We think that the fact you must verify your age just to be able to look at the site is a very
interesting topic. We know that it is regulated and just as other breweries they are obliged to
do this. It is always helpful that you can just use Facebook for this to happen, you don’t need
to take time to fill everything in. And when you enter the website, everything you need to
know is easy to find. A lot of information is given on every aspect needed.
Authority
As one the biggest companies in the Netherlands, they do have a huge impact on the GDP of
their country of origin. They own a huge percentage of the beer market and can reach a lot of
what they desire. The firm also sponsors a lot of different projects, as for example they would
like to support the UN water resources.
Attractiveness
Their website is easy to go through, scrolling the different tabs and learning about their
company is enjoyable. It works all so smooth, it all speaks for itself. They made their site so
everything is watchable in only a few clicks deep, there is never the hassle of having to search
for that one topic you really wanted to know. They also used the green, gold and white from
their logo in the site with gives it a unique but fitting look.

Gouvernement, France
https://www.gouvernement.fr/

(Gouvernement, sd)
Content
This is a site of the French government where you can see the latest news but also but also find
infographics of all sorts, look for statements, learn more about the French government and many
more.

This is the site you need to go to if you want to learn something about the French government .

Functionality
When we first clicked on the website it directly translated itself in English. The tabs were easy to use
and the tab names were very clear so you knew where to look if you wanted to look for a statement
for example. As soon as you clicked on the French translated version the site was fuller and less clear
but you still could use subtitles to orient yourself.

Authority
If we looked up the website of the Belgium government you can see almost immediately that the
website of the French government is much more beautiful and clear than the Belgian one. There is a
lot more info on the French government website than the Belgian one.

Attractiveness
The French website is not ugly but it is also not the most beautiful website that I have seen. They
work with light and clear colours but the starting page is the news page without a lot of pictures so it
just looks a little bit dull. Their ‘welcome to France’ page is super beautiful with a big picture of the
Eiffel tower so it would have been a lot more beautiful and logic if they took this as a starting page.

Mercado Libre, Argentina

https://www.mercadolibre.com.ar

(Mercado Libre, sd)

Content
Mercado Libre is a website of a kind of DIY-store in Argentina. On the site, you can find their
catalogue and you can also shop online, find great discounts and find a lot of information about the
company itself.

Functionality
The website is very clear. For every category, you can find a button so you don’t have to search too
much but there is no translation button. So say like us we need to search something about the
company but we don’t know any Spanish that is a problem because the website only exists in
Spanish.

Authority
We looked up the website of a Belgian DIY-chain called Hubo. If we compare that website against
Mercado libre, we can see that overall the websites are kind of equal. The starting pages of both
websites are full with discounted products and they work with very bright colours. One thing that the
website of Hubo has ,which we think is a plus since it is a DIY-chain, is a page where there are all
sorts of tips and tricks for you. The do-it-yourselves.

Attractiveness
The website is very attractive with the bright colours and many pictures. It draws attention from the
first time you look at it which is always nice and good for a website because that is what keeps
customers on the website.

Yelp, United States

https://fr.yelp.be/sf

(Yelp, sd)

Content
Yelp is a website where you can review all sorts of places. Think about restaurants, bars hotels and
such things. Previous customers of such places can put reviews about their experience to help future
customers who want to learn something about a certain place.
Functionality
The website of yelp is very functional. It is easy to use and if you want to find a place you must have
to enter the name of the place or even city to find something for you. The stars are easy to
understand and you have different categories so you don’t have to search through the whole website
to find a restaurant for example.

Authority
I looked at the website of tripadvisor and the lay-out is more or less the same. It has also a search bar
and categories to make your search easier. Personally, we like the site of yelp more because it has a
more vibrant colour and has a bit clearer overview.

Attractiveness
The website of yelp is very attractive. It has a logo you can easily recognise. They work with a lot of
red which is a really strong colour and the starting page is with a beautiful faded picture of food.
Furthermore, you can see the latest reviews good or bad which is also nice to discover new things.

Spryker, Germany
https://spryker.com

(Spryker, sd)

Content
Spryker is a German company who is specialized in e-commerce solutions. They are both business to
consumer and business to business. So they help new consumers and new businesses to help them
to improve their e-commerce. The company works together with several big companies such as Tom
Tailer, Rose bikes, Amazone.
Functionality
The company is easy to use. The website excited out different tabs. Every tab has their own sub-
topics. Thanks to this it makes the site very organized and nice to use it. Because it’s a German you’re
able to translate the site into English.

Authority
When we compare it with the biggest competitor SAP we can conclude that the site of the Spryker is
more consumer friendly. The site has a nice design and it’s easy to use. The site isn’t really different
then the sites of the competitors. They use more light colors what makes it more pleasant to find
something on it.

Attractiveness
Once you are on the home page you can conclude it’s a real eye catcher. You get directly the
information about the company or the information that you’re looking for. If you open the site, it’s
directly in English. But the translation button is easy to find. The side provides a lot of pictures or
movies. They also use some graphics to explain something.

Agentur BBK, Switzerland

https://www.agentur-bbk.ch/

(agentur bbk, sd)

Content
Agentur BBK is a Swiss company who helps other companies to make a website. The company is
mainly specialized in Business to Business. This means that the company only works together with
other companies. The main focus of the company is based on corporate design, web, events and
photography.
Functionality
The site is well structured and has a good navigation. The company doesn’t use a lot of text but try to
give all the necessary information by pictures. The site has also 2 bars with tabs on. The main tabs
are made to give more information about the company itself. There you can find what the vision and
mission is of the company. The second bar with tabs is made for what they actually do. They explain
with which company they are working with and what they have done. We only found one negative
thing about the site. It’s not possible to translate the website to another language.

Authority
The website of Argentur BBK is not really different from the other companies that I looked up. The
main competitors of the company have a bit the same lay-out as Argentur BBK. They try to keep it
simple and try not to use a lot of text.

Attractiveness
The website for us was really attractiveness. We like the colors that company use. It’s really customer
friendly. It’s also very easy to use. On the website we find a lot of pictures, they use a movie to
explain who they are.

Export.gov, Canada
https://www.export.gov/welcome

(Export.gov, sd)

Content
The website export.gov is a website made by the government of the United States and the
government of Canada. The website provides information about going abroad and doing export. You
find articles about how to do export, what the regulations are and furthermore. On the website you
also find events. The most events are lectures.
Functionality
The website is really easy to use. It has a simple lay out what makes it nice and easy to work with.
You have plenty of tabs that shows you all the necessary information that you need. On the home
page you have directly a search field. Thanks to this you don’t waste a lot of time for searching your
topic. The site has for every single country another page.

Authority
We didn’t really find another site to compare with this website. This is because the site provides
information of any country in the world. This make it really easy for everyone. You have directly the
information that you need by just using one single website.

Attractiveness
We really like the lay out of the website. Once you are on the front page you directly know what the
is about. It is also customer friendly. You find directly every information that you need.

Conclusion
In general, we find that most companies and organizations know how to make a decent websites
according to their respective sector or industry. In some countries it’s more common to keep
websites light without too much content, go straight to the point. Others find it better to make it as
extensive as possible.
