Addressing Issues, Stakeholder Analysis & Mandate

Project Idea:

Ever wondered where the money you contributed or old clothes you donated went and who did
it benefit? My idea is to create a transparent and accountable platform for people who want to
contribute in various forms and to showcase to our contributors where each and every rupee of
their contributions is going, thus bringing in accountability and transparency in the system and
creating a healthy environment of giving in the society. The contributions shall be used for the
benefit of underprivileged children as well as people who are from impoverished backgrounds,
in providing them education, books and other useful items for daily use.

The issue I want to address through my project is the lack of transparency in the system today
towards the utilisation of funds which go for charity. Very often, people who contribute money
and other items would like to know who exactly it is benefiting and how. If this information
was made transparent and known to everyone, it would encourage people to donate more,
as they would be able to see the direct impact of their contributions on someone’s life!

I aim to implement this project by creating a website in which people can create an account
and contribute either money or other items. Within a week or so, their contributions will be
dispatched to the people in need through a network of volunteers. In order to differentiate
our organisation from any other charity, we will also be taking photographs or videos of the
people who have benefited from the contributions as well as uploading a short write up on
their background and story on our website on the account of the contributor. This will help the
contributor in knowing exactly who has benefited and how. We also plan to integrate this with
social networking sites by creating an application which enables people to contribute easily
and view not only their contributions but others’ as well. This will help foster a sense of giving
in the community as well as enable people to view the direct impact of their contributions.

Stakeholder Map:
There are a number of stakeholders in my project, which I have briefly described below:

Team: There will be a strong and accountable network of volunteers who are committed to the
cause and share my vision. In addition, there will be an accounts manager, who takes care of
the funds, allocates it to different channels and makes sure that a record of all the contributions
is maintained and made available online. There will also be a website designer who will create
and maintain the website, and make sure that all information is conveyed to the contributors.

Sponsors: The sponsors will be the backbone of the organisation as they will be providing the
required contributions to run the project. The sponsors may either be individuals, or corporates
who want to tie up with us in order to promote corporate social responsibility within their
organization.

Community: This project aims to impact a lot of people. In the first phase, children from
disadvantaged backgrounds will receive contributions for their education and useful items for
daily use such as books, schoolbag, uniform etc. I also plan to organise a gift drive during the
Christmas season as a part of the project. In the next phase I plan to expand the project to
include impoverished people who require urgent funds in case of emergencies, operations etc.

Partners: The project will take the help of non-government organizations(NGOs) and other
organizations working towards community building, as these organizations have the relevant
experience in the field and can help progress towards our goals.

Others: The local community will be indirectly affected. I hope that the project will affect
everyone in a positive sense, by encouraging a sense of giving and promoting accountability.
Also, I hope to effect a positive change in the lives of the children and people who receive the
contributions and bring smiles to their faces :-)

Power Interest Grid:

High Interest, High Power:

These are the people who are directly involved as a part of the project and include the
volunteers who will be carrying out the field work, the in-house team, the sponsors whose
contributions form the backbone of the project and the local community who will be directly
impacted by the contributions.

High Interest, Low Power:

This category includes groups which are involved in community service and already have an
established volunteer network as well as a number of resources and contacts which will be very
helpful in the initial stages of my project.

Low Interest, High Power:

This category consists of corporates and companies with which it would be beneficial to tie up
with, not only for volunteers and sponsors, but also to create awareness of my project and to
help inculcate a sense of corporate responsibility in the people working in those organizations.

Low Interest, Low Power:

This category includes people who might stumble upon our website or subscribe to our
presence on social media. They will receive updates on the project either through email or
social networking sites, and are potential volunteers/sponsors.

Mandate:

Purpose: The purpose of my project is to create a transparent and accountable platform for
people who want to contribute in various forms thus creating a healthy environment of giving in
the society, as well as impacting lives of people in the local community.

Mission: My project seeks to promote transparency and accountability in charity and help
inculcate a ‘joy of giving’ spirit in our contributors, as well as directly impact the lives of children
and adults in the community.

Vision: A community in which people are joyful to give and can see the direct impact of their
contributions on the community.

Goals:
● To set up a working website by December 2010.
● To run a pilot project in the months of October and November 2010 to gauge the
response and to update the results on the project blog.
● To get in touch with NGOs and corporates for tie-ups by January 2011.
● To touch the lives of atleast 200 people by March 2011.
