THE 21ST CENTURY LEARNERS

Total allotted time 3 hours

On a large class setting, to assess students learning and
Workshop Description understanding (before or after the lesson), multiple-choice tests are
often utilized. However, it can be challenging for teachers to write
good items that will require students to do more than memorizing
facts and details. On the other hand, an Essay-type test provides
opportunity to determine how well the students can think about a
specific topic or use the language of the discipline in responding to
the questions. But what is challenging in an Essay-type test is the
grading of the output thus it allows the students to display their
overall understanding of the content and demonstrate to think
critically, organize ideas, and be creative and original.

In this workshop we will explore how to create an effective

classroom multiple-choice test and essay-type test that are aligned
with the relevant learning objectives and how you can use this
information for your exams to improve teaching.
