2. Ques: Explain different features of windows XP ?

Ans: Following are the features of Windows XP

Safe and Easy personal computing: Windows XP makes personal computing easy and
enjoyable. Power, performance, a bright new look, and plenty of help when you need it.
Windows XP has it all, along with unmatched dependability and security.

World of Digital media: A lot of working with digital media at home, at work, and on
the Internet. Enjoy photography, music, videos, computer games, and more.

Connected Home and Office: Share files, photos, music, even a printer and Internet –
all on a network that is private and secure.

Best for Business: With Windows XP, you get the proven dependability of Microsoft
Windows 2000, enhanced for high-speed performance and even greater reliability.

3. Ques: How do you protect you Word documents?

Ans: One way you can prevent people from modifying a document is by having a
prompt appear that recommends the document be opened as read-only. If it is opened in
read-only mode, the changes can only be saved by giving the document a new name. The
steps below outline how to accomplish this using Word 2003.

To recommend read-only mode in Word 2003:

From the Tools menu, click Options. The Options dialog box will appear.
Click the Security tab.
Click the Read-only recommended option.
Click OK.
Another method for protecting a document is to assign a password to modify. You should
use this option when you want to let others read the content of the document but only
allow specific individuals to make changes. When you assign a password to modify, only
those individuals who know the password can modify the document. The steps below
outline how to accomplish this in Word 2003:

Open the appropriate document.

From the File menu, click Save as.
Within the Save As dialog box, click Security Options from the Tools menu.
In the Password to modify box, enter a password to secure the document.
Re-enter the password when prompted.
Click OK.
Click Save.

4. Ques: With the block diagram explain the organization of computers?

Ans: A computer is a fast and accurate device, which can accept data, store data, process
them and give, desired results as output. The computer is organized into four units as
shown in the following diagram.

1. Input: This is the process of entering data and programs in to the computer system.
You should know that computer is an electronic machine like any other machine which
takes as inputs raw data and performs some processing giving out processed data.
Therefore, the input unit takes data from us to the computer in an organized manner for
processing.

Fig. 2 Basic computer Operations

2. Storage: The process of saving data and instructions permanently is known as storage.
Data has to be fed into the system before the actual processing starts. It is because the
processing speed of Central Processing Unit (CPU) is so fast that the data has to be
provided to CPU with the same speed. Therefore the data is first stored in the storage unit
for faster access and processing. This storage unit or the primary storage of the computer
system is designed to do the above functionality. It provides space for storing data and
instructions.
The storage unit performs the following major functions:

 All data and instructions are stored here before and after processing.
 Intermediate results of processing are also stored here.

3. Processing: The task of performing operations like arithmetic and logical operations is
called processing. The Central Processing Unit (CPU) takes data and instructions from
the storage unit and makes all sorts of calculations based on the instructions given and the
type of data provided. It is then sent back to the storage unit.

4. Output: This is the process of producing results from the data for getting useful
information. Similarly the output produced by the computer after processing must also be
kept somewhere inside the computer before being given to you in human readable form.
Again the output is also stored inside the computer for further processing.

5. Control: The manner how instructions are executed and the above operations are
performed. Controlling of all operations like input, processing and output are performed
by control unit. It takes care of step by step processing of all operations inside the
computer.

5. Ques: How to import Video files into PowerPoint Slides?

Ans: If you've ever created slide shows for your sales presentations, you have probably
used Microsoft Office PowerPoint 2003. PowerPoint is a powerful and effective program
for displaying concise data during a live presentation. But PowerPoint slides alone might
not be sufficiently informative when distributed over your company's intranet or as a
presentation that customers can view from your company's Web site.

Microsoft Producer for PowerPoint is a new tool for adding a rich video experience to
your slide shows. Producer can combine a PowerPoint presentation with video, audio,
Hypertext Markup Language (HTML), and still images to create a standalone
presentation that you can distribute on the Internet or on a CD-ROM. Your target
audience can then view it by using a Web browser such as Microsoft Internet Explorer.

Import and add video files

Because video files have finite durations, you might want to add the files first and then
adjust all the other elements to synchronize with the files.

Note The following procedures assume that you already started Producer. The first time t
hat you start Producer, a Microsoft Producer dialog box opens.

To import video clips into Producer

a) Click the Media tab.

b) Under Project files, click the Video folder.
c) Double-click Import Video.
d) In the Import File dialog box, browse to the location of your video files, select the
video files that you want to use, and then click Open.

Sometimes you might import a single video file made up of several video clips.
Individual clips are easier to work with when you synchronize slides, templates, and
other elements. For this reason, you might want to import the single file as several
smaller clips.

To import a single video file as several smaller video clips, select Create clips for video
files in the Import File dialog box when you import the video file. After the video clips
appear in the Video folder, drag each clip to the Video track in the timeline in the order
you want the clips to play.

Video clips also include a sound track. If the sound track on the timeline is not already
displayed, expand the Video track to see the associated Transition and Audio tracks.

Note You can also add a video clip to the Audio 2 track. If you do this, only the audio
contained in the video clip is played in your project; the video contained in the clip is not
displayed.

6. Ques: What are graphic applications?

Ans: In computer graphics, graphics software or image editing software is a

program or collection of programs that enable a person to manipulate visual images on a
computer.

Computer graphics can be classified into two distinct categories: raster graphics and
vector graphics. Before learning about computer software that manipulates or displays
these graphics types, you should be familiar with both.

Many graphics programs focus exclusively on either vector or raster graphics, but there
are a few that combine them in interesting and sometimes unexpected ways. It is simple
to convert from vector graphics to raster graphics, but going the other way is harder.
Some software attempts to do this.

Most graphics programs don’t have the ability to import and export one or more graphics
file formats.

Several graphics programs support animation, or digital video. Vector graphics

animation can be described as a series of mathematical transformations that are applied in
sequence to one or more shapes in a scene. Raster graphics animation works in a similar
fashion to film-based animation, where a series of still images produces the illusion of
continuous movement.

7. Ques: What is the difference between WWW & Internet?

Ans: Internet

The Internet is a massive network of networks, a networking infrastructure. It connects

millions of computers together globally, forming a network in which any computer can
communicate with any other computer as long as they are both connected to the Internet.
Information that travels over the Internet does so via a variety of languages known as
protocols. Internet is a network of computers and related devices, a mechanism to transfer
data from one computer to the other computers. In a nutshell the Internet can be defined
as a global “Network of Networks.” Internet means an Interconnection of Networks.
Internet has made the globe a small village.

Internet is popularly known as “Net”. Internet is a huge repository of information on

almost every topic imaginable. People all over the world can search the net for
Information; add new information and exchange views on different topics. The Internet is
an electronic web that connects people and businesses that have access to networks and
allows them to send and receive E-mail and to participate in a number of other activities,
around the clock. In fact, the Internet is so huge, with a wide variety of features in it.

World Wide Web

WWW: World Wide Web this is hypertext based application which will allow to
retrieve the document, audio and video from the interlinked web pages. These interlinked
pages may be spread across different servers. The user can click on to a link and get
required information.

Each Web page is document created using HTML tags, XML etc. One Web page may be
linked to another Web page. Thus the interlinked web pages form a Web site. These links
are known as hyperlinks.

Example of web site name:

www.manipalu.com this is called as URL (Uniform Resource Locator) of the site.

Home page of a website is the first page displayed when you go to a web site. This
generally contains the contents of whole site. By clicking on to the required content you
can reach the web page which has information about that content.
