THELEMIC RITE OF SELF-INITIATION

(to be performed by those who aspire to become active and full members of the
Supreme College Of the Hermetic Arts [ORDO TEMPLI HERMETICUM])

Begin by removing your clothes and bathing yourself in a perfumed or herbal ritual
bath (symbolic of the element water) to purify your body and spirit of negative
vibrations. As you bathe, clear your mind completely of all mundane, negative and
unpleasant thoughts, and meditate until your body is totally relaxed. After
bathing, cast on the floor a circle of about six feet in diameter, using white
chalk or paint. Sprinkle a little salt
(symbolic of the element earth) over the circle to consecrate it, and say:

With salt I consecrate

and bless this circle in the divine name of the goddess of Infinite Space, Nuit and
her consort, the snake god of Light, Hadit. Blessed Be!

Sit in the center of your circle, facing north, with two white candles (symbolic of
the element fire) and a censer of frankincense and myrrh incense (symbolic of the
element air) before you. (it is best to perform this ritual alone and skyclad, or
nude; however, if you feel uncomfortable working without clothing on, you may wear
a white ceremonial robe
instead.)

Light the incense, and the light the first candle, and say: I invoke and call upon
thee O mother Goddess, creatress of life and soul of the infinite universe.
By candle flame and incense smoke
Do I invoke Thee to bless this rite.
To be thy mate, to be awake and to grant me admittance to the company of Men
Amongst Men.

O thou blue-lidded daughter of Sunset; thou naked brilliance of the voluptuous

night-sky. Thou who art nown as Nuit, Babalon and the Scarlet Woman amongst many
other beautiful and divine names, In this consecrated circle of candlelight I do
pledge myself to honor thee, to love thee, and to serve thee well for as long as I
shall live
I promise to respect and obey the law
of Love Under Will. I promise to seek thee only, to be goodly therefore: to dress
in fine apparel; to eat rich foods and drink sweet wines and wines that foam! Also
to take my will of love as I will, when, where and with whom I will! But always
unto thee.

I swear to abide by the Law of the New Aeon; "do what thou wilt."
O Nuit, continuous one in Heaven,
I do open my heart and soul to thee. So mote it be!

Light the second candle, and say: I invoke an d call upon thee
O Great Horned god of Pagans,
Lord of all the green woodlands
and Father of all things wild and free
Who is known as Cernunnos, Attis, Pan, Daghda, Faunus, Frey, Lupercus, and Odin.

Io Pan! Io Pan! Come over the sea.

From Sicily and from Arcady!
Roaming as Bacchus, with fauns and pards and nymphs and satyrs for thy guards, on a
milk-white ass, come over the sea to me, to me!
By candle flame and incense smoke
Do I invoke Thee to bless this rite. Io Pan! Io Pan! Devil or god, come with
trumpets sounding shrill, come with drums low muttering, come with flute and come
with pipe! Come, O come! To me! to me!

In this consecrated circle of candlelight

I do pledge myself to honor thee,
to love thee, and to serve thee well
for as long as I shall live. I who wait and writhe and wrestle with air that hath
no boughs to nestle. My body, weary of empty clasp, strong as a lion and sharp as
an asp, come, O come!
O great horned God, all-devourer, all-begetter, I do open my heart and soul to
thee. Give me the sign of the open eye! O Pan! Io Pan! Io Pan Pan! Pan! Io Pan! So
mote it be!

Hold your open hands up to the heavens. Close your eyes and visualize two white
beams of glowing light streaking down from the sky and flowing into your palms. A
warm, tingling feeling will begin to spread throughout your body as the love
power of the Goddess and the God purifies your soul. Do not be afraid if you being
to hear a voice (or voices) speaking inside your mind as if by telepathy. It is the
Goddess and
the God within you making their presence known. (Although no everybody hears or
perceives the actual spoken words of the Goddess and the Horned God - some merely
feel their divine presence and live - it is not uncommon for the pagan deities to
speak directly to a newly self-initiated Magician, especially if he or she is
psychic-sensitive to being with.) Remain in the consecrated circle until both of

(A realizar por aquellos que aspiran a ser activa y plena miembros del Supremo
Colegio de la Herm�tica Artes [Ordo Templi Hermeticum])

Comience por quitar su ropa y ba�arse a s� mismo en un ba�o ritual perfumar hierbas
(s�mbolo de elemento agua) para purificar el cuerpo y el esp�ritu de las
vibraciones negativas. Como usted se ba�a, despejar su mente por completo de todos
los pensamientos mundanos, negativo y desagradable, y meditar hasta que su cuerpo

(s�mbolo del elemento fuego) y un incensario del incienso y el incienso mirra

Mantenga las manos abiertas al cielo. Cierra los ojos y visualiza dos haces de luz
blanca brillante rayar desde el cielo y que fluye en sus palmas. Una c�lida,
