GOOD INTERFACE (LAZADA)
A. PURPOSE OF THE INTERFACE

Lazada was launched in March 2012 and be the number-one


online shopping and selling destination in Indonesia, Malaysia,
the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand and Vietnam. Lazada
offers the widest range of products in categories from consumer
electronics to household goods, toys, fashion, sports equipment
and groceries. Focused on delivering an excellent customer experience, it offers multiple
payment methods including cash-on-delivery, comprehensive customer care and hassle-free
returns through its own first and last mile delivery arm supported by approximately 100
logistics partners. As the pioneer of the eCommerce ecosystem in the Southeast Asia, Lazada
has 155,000 sellers and 3,000 brands serving 560 million consumers in the region through its
marketplace platform, supported by a wide range of tailored marketing, data and service
solutions. Lazada Group is majority owned by Alibaba Group Holding Limited.

B. GOOD ASPECTS OF LAZADA


The interface of Lazada can easily attracts all kind of user. It is because the front page of Lazada
is full with the items which is on offer sale. So, the user who visit the Lazada app for the 1 st
time can start their shopping by visiting the offered items. Other than that, Lazada also can be
access in two languages Malaysia and so other country users will access this app in their own
language in their country.

GOOD ASPECTS OF LAZADA BY USABILITY HEURISTICS

1. VISIBILITY OF SYSTEM STATUS

 Every display begins with a title or header that describes the screen content which
makes the user to easily identify what they are searching for and can filter the products
 selected icon is highlighted with colour and clearly visible when surrounded by
unselected icons.
 visual feedback in menus, dialog boxes about which thing you have purchased or
selected.
 the customer will be updated all the time about their purchased item like their payment
detail, where and who will deliver their package, through appropriate feedback within
reasonable time.
 do not have to worry about that they will be cheated by losing their money and not
receiving their purchased item.
 Flash sale countdown timer will run with unusual amount of discounts
2. MATCH BETWEEN SYSTEM AND THE REAL WORLD

 the language that the user can understand. For example, in Malaysia the Lazada can be
access in two languages which is English and Malay.
 clear headlines and relatable pictures that makes the user feel free to search what they
want to purchase directly without wasting their time to scroll all the items
 the purchasing way is familiar like we purchase in shop by compare an item with
another one by its quality, price and quantity
 The icon used in the interface is relatable to the real world make the user easily
understand what is the icon is for
 the icons are so familiar like we have use it before in other applications just like
Instagram. Such as the HOME shaped like icon is to go back to the first page and MAN
shaped like icon is for the user account/profile.

3. USER CONTROL AND FREEDOM

 the users will meet the “emergency exit” such as undo


button and “x” button in every frame in mobile and desktop.
 can exit one page in a second without to go through an
extended dialogue.
 icons for categories of items in every page so that the users
free to switch the page whenever they want.
 Customer free to adjust how many pieces, or what size they
want to buy
 Customers can cancle their order even they add in WishList
by selecting the cross icon

4. CONSISTENCY AND STANDARDS

 The blue background and icons colour keep constant in each page makes the user feels
like they are visiting the same application.
 The Buy Now and Add to Cart button is highlighted in orange and remain the same
position make the user requires less thinking and do not risk misinterpretation.
 Moreover, the navigation menu in all primary, secondary and the other pages are well
orientated and layouts and their font styles.
 The word CART is standard word using in all online shopping applications, and it
informs what item we have already buy

5. ERROR PREVENTION

 Before conforming an order, the

details like address where the item
have to deliver, bill address for a
last check.
 There is an edit button which is
highlighted in different colour so
that the user can notice the button easily and check their address detail before order
 if we order an item and want to drop off the order at last minute, there is a dustbin like
shaped icon to cancel the selected order.
 Giving recommendation while searching something on searching box avoids customer
making misspelling errors
6. RECOGNITION RATHER THAN RECALL

 help the user to minimize their


memory load by making options,
categories and suggestions option
visible.
 If the user never knew the items
name that they want to purchase,
the can search it in the category
box where all kind of suggestions
and options are available.
 The instruction for purchase an
item, their price, offers, discounts
are visible or easily retrievable
whenever appropriate for the user.
 The help button, details, customer care icons are visible at the bottom of the page and
was totally separated from the purchasing items. So that the user can easily recognise
the options easily without getting confused.

7. FLEXIBILITY AND EFFICIENCY OF USE

 novice user and expert user is by purchasing differently. The novice user may conform
the thing that the purchase and buy and pay for that item on the spot. The item that they
bought may be quite expensive.
 But the expert user will add the item that they choose in ADD IN CART and wait till a
promotion date. When the selected items price drop on the promotion date, then the
expert user will buy the item.
 the novice user will see for the item and buy it without worrying about the shipping
money even it is quite expensive because it is shipped from another country while
expert user will always try to buy our country products
 payment will be always in one way even they have many items to buy

8. AESTHETIC AND MINIMALIST DESIGN

 The user will only see one screen's worth of information at a time and there is no
unnecessary information or words on the interface of Lazada.
 only core relevant information of Lazada should be visible like log in/out, sign in/out,
track my order, language and search buttons.
 The buttons that users never use frequently was in the bottom of the page such as about
the Lazada, and their page links.
 organised interface and makes the user feel comfortable to use it by having only
important things on the top of the interface of Lazada.
9. HELP USERS RECOGNIZE, DIAGNOSE, AND RECOVER FROM ERRORS

 indicate the problem clear, and also providing a solution for every single mistake done
by the user.
 The error messages of Lazada is plain in the language and a symbol that makes the user
understand what is the problem directly without any confusion.
 the colour they used for the notification also very bright and different from other words.
For example, if the user forgets to enter their address there will be a notification on red
colour to remind the user to enter their address.
 if the user adds the same item in wish list for more than two times there will be a
notification pop out telling that the item was already in the wish list.

10. HELP AND DOCUMENTATION

 Even the Lazada is an application for do online shopping but it is necessary to have
help and documentation side/icon in the interface.
 information should be easy to search and clear their doubts on the spot.
 users may not understand how to make an order, cancel it or change the order. So, at
this time they can get the customer care service help, or select the Help button and get
the instructions.
 For the users who wants to know about the Lazada may choose the About button to get
further information about the Lazada.
 They can also get more information in customer care which contain customer support,
refund and live chat

BAD INTERFACE (TRACK OF TERROR)


A) PURPOSE OF THE INTERFACE
Nickelodeon is committed to being a brand
parent trust, upholding ethical standards across
programming and advertising and delivering
premium content to multiplatform screens. So,
they invented this game platform for all. In this
platform, all the cartoons that advertised by
Nickelodeon was make as a game for us to
play. One of the games are Track Of Terror
which if made from SpongeBob SquarePants
cartoon.
B) BAD ASPECTS OF TRACK OF TERROR
TRACK OF TERROR game interface is not organised well and makes the user confuse to find
the difference between the games and advertisement. Moreover, the frame of the TRACK OF
TERROR game is so small and surrounded by some other suggestions for game makes the
player is not fully focused on playing the game. There is also no information about that game
in its interface. So that the interface of TRACK OF TERROR game is noticed as a bad
interface.

C) BAD ASPECTS OF TRACK OF TERROR BY USABILITY HEURISTICS

1. VISIBILITY OF SYSTEM STATUS

 This TRACK OF TERROR game


does’nt inform the player what is going
on,and what is this game about or how
to play this game and so on.
 Once you choose and start play the
game, the character in that game starts
to move and as a player who plays that
game for the first time would not know
what to do and how to play that game.
 there is no option or guide to get to
know how to play the game, in the primary and secondary page of that game.
 We have the option once we start playing that game, that is on right top of that frame.
It is a Pause liked button and once we press it option for how to play that game will
appear.
 Even there is 3 game options in that TRACK OF TERROR game, but the name of the
game we choose wont appear back, so the player would not know what game are they
playing.
SUGGESTION FOR BETTER DESIGN
 The primary interface of the game should have the option buttons like PLAY, HOW
TO PLAY/DEMO, ABOUT THE GAME, SETTING and so on.
 So that the player will get a full view about the game before playing it.
 the name of the game that we playing also have to be on the interface of the game, so
that the player will know what game are they playing now.
2. MATCH BETWEEN SYSTEM
AND THE REAL WORLD
 The Track of Terror game
have 3 options for us to select
which game we want to play.
Even the name of the game is
attractive but they never
match the real world never
relate to the game we play on
screen.
 the interface describes that
the game is quite spooky but
it does’nt. So the game is totally different then what we think and not match the real
world.
 The symbol that they use in the option is not so familier like we use in other games.
They have TICK like button for go back. So it is quite confusing the player.

SUGGESTION FOR BETTER DESIGN


 To improve the game, the name of the games should meet the real world. For example
there must be a connection between the game and the name they give for the game.
 By reading the name, the player should have a overview about the game.
 the symbols that they are using in that game options should be familier and makes the
player uderstand easily what does the symbol meant for.

3. USER CONTROL AND FREEDOM


 There is no freedom for the
player in this game. They have
to go through a long
unecessasery dialog whenever
they select a wrong game or
option.
 There is no emergency exit is
provided in this game or a back
button.
 Even the interface of the game also very empty and just have cartoon graphics only.
 Once we click on any side of the sceen, the game will start. So the user have no option
after enter the game even they click by mistake.
 there are a lot of games surrounded around the game we play, so if we by mistake click
out of the game box, we may enter to a new game.

SUGGESTION FOR BETTER DESIGN


 The game should have back button or emergency exit for make the player avoid a long
unnecessasry dialog by clicking a wrong button.
 They also shold avoid having an empty interface without having any words or options.
It makes the user to get confuse what step they have to take after this.
 For starting a game, they have to give a PLAY button, to avoid player to start the game
by mistake. By having this button, the player may prepare first before starting the game.

4. CONSISTENCY AND STANDARDS


 The navigation menu was not appear in some interface of the game. So they player
may not have any idea about what to do.
 the background was so messy with more cartoon characters and the word colour they
used for the title seems do dull and not that attractive.
 fonts they used for instruction and other direction are in white, sanserif, and not match
with the font they used for title.This shows that there is no consistency in this game.
 they main interface of this game also not organised well, because there in no
difference between the game and advertisement. So the player may choose the
advertisement instad of game and may go through a long dialog.

SUGGESTION FOR BETTER DESIGN


 They should use the same fonts they used in the main interface and the colour of the
fonts also have to be attractive. Then only the user will feel like they are using the same
interface.
 the game also has to be well organised by having separate platform for advertisements.
Then only the user felt free to choose the games without have to worry about choosing
the advertisement.

5. ERROR PREVENTION
 If a player made an error or a mistake there is no way to correct it. The player should
go through a long dialog just like an advertisement video.
 Only way to avoid a long dialogue, they should get immediate exit by closing the whole
page. Because there is no back button is provided in this interface.
 It is very common to make mistake in this page, because all the games are arranged so
tightly and every game in that page is so colourful until the player cannot find the
difference between two games.
 So, if they choose any game by mistake, they should wait until the game to load and
provide an exit button.

SUGGESTION FOR BETTER DESIGN


 There should be an emergency exit button in every interface of the game. So that the
player can get out of the game, or change the game whenever they want.
 They also can save their time by avoiding long dialogs, watching advertisement video
and so on.
 The player will feel free to play a game interface if they can move freely and the
interface in easy to control for a player to use.
6. RECOGNITION RATHER THAN RECALL
 Track of Terror game interface is
maximizing the players memory load by not
giving any search button, categories, but
many options is visible.
 the player has to go through each and every
game to find their favourite one. It makes
the player to waste their time.
 every cartoon that telecast in Nickelodeon
have been made as games, and all the games are mixed with one another.
 without realising one game will be repeated multiple times while we search for a game.
It makes the player to spend more time.

SUGGESTION FOR BETTER DESIGN


 The Track of Terror game interface should have a search button for the players to
search their favourite game.
 They also have to arrange all the games by their name or the cartoon name. So that,
the player will feel easy to search their favourite game without wasting their time by
scrolling all the games.
 The name of games also has to be in words, other than cartoon pictures. Because it
will make the interface looks so messy.

7. FLEXIBILITY AND EFFICIENCY OF USE


 Flexibility to use this interface is quite difficult for both novice and expert user.
 It is because the interface of this game is not well organised and each time the
arrangement of the games will change.
 Since there is no search button the novice user will try to find their favourite game and
play. While the expert user plays all the games that they see.
 This is because all the games are quite same even with developed using different
cartoon characters. So, it will be easy to play whatever game that we see in that
interface, other than searching for our favourite one.

SUGGESTION FOR BETTER DESIGN


 The recently played game should be in the top of the page. So, that the player would
not take time to search for it for long time.
 the game with same concept, or from the same cartoon should be at beside of the game
as suggestion. Then the new updates also should be visible for the player. So that the
both novice user and expert user will have a mind to try the new games.

8. AESTHETIC AND MINIMALIST DESIGN


 The Track of Terror game will have information which is not that worth on screen. Such
as advertisement, and some other pictures or texts which makes the interface looks
messy and not well organised.
 Not all the player will have interest to visit an advertisement or unnecessary information
or words on the interface of game.
 Even the core relevant information of the games and hidden. There is a difficulty to
find the Help button or About button to know the further information about this game.
So, the player/user will feel uncomfortable to use this interface.

SUGGESTION FOR BETTER DESIGN


 The important information about this game should be visible for the player/user to get
to know about this game.
 There must be a corner to make all kind of advertisement in that interface. So that the
interface would not look messy anymore.
 they should avoid too many pictures to be in the interface of the game and the
background pictures with a lot of patterns and designs because it distracts the player

9. HELP USERS RECOGNIZE, DIAGNOSE, AND RECOVER FROM ERRORS


 The Track of Terror game never indicate the problem clearly. Sometimes the player
does not know how to play a game because there is no guide provided.
 Once the game starts the cartoon character will move by itself and the game will be
finished with the points you have get even you never do anything.
 there is no notification will to guide u through this game.

SUGGESTION FOR BETTER DESIGN


 It is better to give a guide or demo before start the game.
 There must have a written rules and regulation to play and score the game. Then only
the player will feel free to play the game without any doubts.
 the game also has to give some time to the player to prepare them self before starts the
game. Because if the game starts once the player click anywhere on the screen, the
player will go blur.

10. HELP AND DOCUMENTATION


 Even Track of Terror is an interface to play games but it is necessary to have a help and
documentation side in the interface. So that any information should be easy to search
and clear their doubts.
 the help button is not visible. For the player who wants to know about this game
interface page would not have no idea because there is no option for that.
 Sometime the game will have the instruction on how to play the game but it is not that
clear for us to understand. Because it is not in words.

SUGGESTION FOR BETTER DESIGN


 The Track of Terror game should have a help and documentation side in the interface
for the user who needs more information about this interface.
 the help and documentation side should be in the visible place. So that the player will
get the information on time and wont waste their time by searching for the help button.
