After a thorough preparation, from the conceptualization of the
topic where the seminar will be focusing up to the planning of how it will
be executed, the half-day seminar which was sponsored and facilitated
by EDUC 208 (Leadership Behavior in Education) class under Dr. Randy P.
Bacares was successfully pushed through last October 20, 2018.

Several meetings were done by the different committees and it was

agreed on during the brainstorming that the keynote speaker will be
Ma’am Lynn Z. Padillo, Chief, Curriculum Implementations Division from
DepEd Naga City Division.

The seminar was held at the Audio Visual Room-A (AVR-A),

Universidad de Sta. Isabel. The registration began at exactly 7 o ‘clock. At
about 8:30, the program proper began. It was formally started through an
opening prayer followed by the Philippine National Anthem. Dr. Bacares
delivered his opening remarks and it was followed by the introduction of
the speaker given by Mrs. Jelreen Vi Sales. After the preliminaries, the
resource speaker started her talk.

The talk revolved around the topic. Ma’am Lynn began her talk by
asking some of the participants about the current situation of their
leadership experience using the weather check. Then she shared the
presentation by Ma’am Orfelina O. Tuy, CESO III which is entitled, “The
DNA of Leadership.” It is said that Leadership DNA is the practice you use
to motivate or demotivate those you depend upon for development of
your organization. The seven vital leadership genes (CHANGES) were
enumerated and explained. C is for Community (Pair bond: Including vs.
Exluding), H is for Humanity (Pair bond: Appreciating vs. Blaming), A is for
Aspiration (Pair bond: Striving vs. Fearing), N is for Navigating (Pair bond:
Sharing vs. Withholding), G for Generativity (Pair bond: Wondering vs.
Knowing), E for Expressing (Pair bond: Developing vs. Dictating), and S for
Spirit (Pair bond: Celebrating vs. Conforming). She also shared the Five
Essential Skills for Leadership in the 21st Century by Melanie Greenberg. The
essential skill is Contribute Uniqueness, next is Act Effectively, third is Be
Resilient, then Embrace Change and the last one is Stay Grounded. She
said that being a leader in the 21st century is harder and more challenging
for we are living in a VUCA—Volatile, Uncertain, Complex and Ambiguous
World. Ma’am Padillo has shared her journey and inspiring personal
experiences on how she has succeeded in spite all the challenges and
hardships that she has gone through as a teacher, wife, daughter, and
especially as a mother. The talk ran for about two hours and she ended it
with a quote by Carl Jung, “I am not what happened to me, I am what I
choose to become.”

After the talk, Mr. Thomas Nacario from DepEd Camarines Sur has
presented an intermission number. Then, the participants were given a 5-
minute health break. Right after break, the program resumed. As a form of
giving thanks to the speaker, she was awarded with certificate and token
of appreciation. After the awarding, Mr. Jayson Aliben, chairperson of the
steering committee gave his closing remarks. The seminar was ended
through a closing prayer and before the participants went home, photo
ops were done.

Before 12 noon, the seminar adjourned. It was participated by a

total number of (total number) teachers from different schools inside and
outside Naga City. The activity was also attended by the graduate school
dean; Dr. Cesar C. San Jose.
