Lesson Plan Type: Reviewing Adjectives

Course: English/ ESL

Grades: 6th- 12th

Estimated Duration: 2 hours

Learning Objectives:
 Learn to identify adjectives when reading.
 Applying adjectives appropriately when writing sentences.

Goal:
 Learn to use adjectives properly through reading, writing, and communicating.

Materials:
 Students will be provided with a variety of short books that teach and model adjectives to
choose from.
 College-ruled paper
 Pen/pencil
 Two different colored highlighters

Management:
 I plan to maintain an assertive management style when implementing the lesson.
 Provide support as needed by the students.
 Obtain constant feedback from the students throughout the lesson.

Introduction: (15 min.)


 I will introduce the lesson to the class by defining the term, ADJECTIVE to the class. I
will create sentences describing the classroom and emphasize the adjectives.
Instruction: (30 min.)
 I will read a book aloud in front of the class. As I read the book, I will identify the first
couple of adjectives and elaborate on how those words are considered adjectives.
 I will call on students randomly to identify the rest of the adjectives as I continue reading
the book.
 I will give the students the opportunity to ask questions prior to beginning the lesson.

Procedure: (45 min.)


 Independent work- students will pick a book of their choice to read. They will use one
highlighter to highlight the adjectives in the book. (15 min.)
 Group work- students will then be partnered up with a peer and switch books. Using a
different colored highlighter, they will correct their peer’s work as needed. After about 15
minutes of correcting and communicating with one another they will create classroom
appropriate sentences describing something about their partner. Peers will rely on each
other’s feedback throughout their discussion. Then, the groups will do skits, acting out
their sentences to get them more engaged during the lesson. (30 min.)

Extension: (10 min.)


 Each student will be asked to share a sentence with the class using and identifying the
adjective.

Assessment: (20 min.)


 Students’ will assess themselves as they correct each other.
 Teacher will observe each group as they are correcting their partner’s work.
 Teacher will walk around the class and stop by each group as they create sentences
describing each other.
 Students’ will take a quiz in which will indicate whether they comprehend the term.
