D. Science Concept:

 Angiosperms are flowering plants with seeds enclosed in a fruit or

“Hidden Seeds”
 Phylum Angiospermophyta is divided into two classes according to the
number of cotyledons in their seeds: two cotyledons , dicot and only one
cotyledon -,monocot.
 Monocot and Dicot plants provide sufficient supply of oxygen, food,
medicine and source of income to people.

E. Science Process: Comparing

F. Values Integration: Appreciate the importance of flowering plants.

III. Learning Strategy:

Teacher’s Activity Learner’s Activity
A. Pre-assessment
Prayer:
Everybody please stand up. May I (Students standing up.)
request __________ to lead the (Students praying.)
prayer? Amen.

Greetings:
Good afternoon class. Good afternoon ma’am!
You may take your seats.
How are you today? We are good ma’am.
That’s great!

Checking of Attendance:
Let me check your attendance
according to our seat plan.

Checking of Assignment:
Please get your assignments and
pass it to the front.

B. Review of the Past Lesson

What have we discussed last We have discussed last meeting
meeting? about Kingdom Plantae ma’am.
Very good.
What are the two major groups of Ma’am the vascular and non-
plants in Kingdom Plantae that we vascular plants.
have mentioned?
Very good. What were the other Bryophytes and Tracheophytes
names for vascular and non-vascular ma’am.
plants?
Very good.
Do you have any questions regarding None ma’am.
our past lesson?
If none, then let’s proceed to our next
lesson.

C.Motivation
Everybody please stand up. (Students standing up.)
Let’s have an ice breaker. If I say
“flowering”, you remain standing but if
I say “plant”, you sit down.
Are you ready? Yes ma’am.
Flowering! (Students standing up)
Plant! (Students sitting down)
Plant!
Flowering!
(Repeating it)
Very good everyone! You may take
your seats now.
I have here some plant leaves and
roots.
(actual leaves of onion, bandera
Española,lemon grass, pechay,
gumamela, calamansi, and actual
raddish and carrot)
Compare the leaves as well as the
roots from different plants. Group
these plant leaves and roots into two
according to the basis of your
classification on how they differ from
each other or how they are similar
with each other within a minute.
(Assigning groups and giving them
each group with different plant leaves Group 1: Onion leaf, lemon grass,
and roots) bandera Española leaf, calamansi
In a minute, it must be arranged into leaf, and raddish / Gumamela leaf,
Two. pechay leaf and carrot
Group 2: lemon grass and raddish /
calamansi leaf, bandera Española
leaf, pechay leaf and carrot, onion
leaf, gumamela leaf,
Group 3: bandera Española,
raddish, lemon grass, onion leaf /
calamansi leaf, gumamela, pechay
and carrot
Time is up!
(Representative)
Name the plants that you and your Ma’am we group the onion, lemon
group mates have grouped together grass, bandera Española, calamansi
and how you classify them. leaf and raddish together while
gumamela goes with the pechay and
carrot. We classify them according
to the shape of their leaves and the
the type of roots.
Very good. What about the group two. Ma’am we grouped together the
lemon grass and the raddish while
calamansi leaf, bandera Española
leaf, pechay, carrot, onion leaf and
gumamela leaf. We also classify
them according to the shape of their
leaves as well as the root.
Very good. How about you group Ma’am we grouped the bandera
three. Española, raddish, lemon grass,
onion leaf together while
Calachuchi, gumamela, pechay and
carrot are separated. We classify
them according to the arrangement
of the veins in their leaves and the
root system.

Very good. We will know in our

discussion later. What do you think is Ma’am about classifying flowering
our topic for today? plants.

Very good.

D. Presentation of the Topic

This afternoon, we will discuss about
flowering plants and how they are
classified.
(Post the objective on the board)
At the end of the lesson, we will be
able to:
Compare the characteristics of
monocot and dicot plants.

E. Developmental Activity
(Good for 5-10 minutes)
Let’s have an activity.
a. Setting a standard
Groups of three.
b. Criteria for their points/ grade
Output Cooperation
(correct answer (participation of
of the puzzle) the members)
10 pts - 5 pts - all
correct members
answer of cooperated
puzzle 3 pts - when 2
7 pts - when to 3 did not
there are 2 to work
3 mistakes 2 pts - when 4
5 pts - when or more did
there are 4 or not cooperate

mistakes

(Content)
5 pts - when
all differences
mentioned
3 pts - when
there are 2 to
3 not
mentioned
2 pts - when
there are 4 or
more not
mentioned

c. Discussing Procedure
1. With the same group, assemble the
jigsaw puzzle.
2. Color each parts of plant with
crayons.
3. Attach them into the cartolina
provided using scotch tape.
4. Label which one is monocot or
dicot.
5. Describe and write down their
differences in the provided sheet.
6. A representative from the group will
report their output in font.
(2 minutes each representative)
(After 10 minutes) Time is up!
Post all your output son the board.
The representative of each group will
discuss their answers. (reporting)

F. Lesson Proper

Angiosperms are flowering plants with

seeds enclosed in a fruit meaning
they are “hidden seeds.”
Observe from this fruit I have. (Calls a
student) What is this? A calamansi ma’am.

Can you see any of their seed? No ma’am.

Very good.
Can you name some plants with Avocado ma’am, papaya, squash
hidden seeds? maam.
Very good.
They also produce gametes and
seeds. What do you think is the
reproductive structure of angiosperm? Flower ma’am.
Very good.

Observe from this picture.

Do you recognize what plants they Yes ma’am. An orchid and a water
are? lily.
Can you identify their differences? Yes ma’am.
(Calls a student) Compare their Ma’am they differ in the shape of
differences. their leaves and flower.
What else? (Calls a student) Ma’am the orchid has longer leaves
and small flowers while lilies have
big leaves and flowers.
Some more. (Calls a student) Ma’am the orchids hang on the tree
while water lily lives on the water.
Excellent!
Flowering plants greatly differ in their
appearances and they grow in
different environments.
What about the cactus? The live in the dry lands or Desert
ma’am.
Very good. But mostly, flowering
plants grow in tropical areas.

Please read from the board, (Calls a

student).
Phylum Angiospermophyta is
divided into two classes according to
the number of cotyledons in their
seeds. Two cotyledons are placed
under Dicotyledonidae or dicot and
those with only one cotyledon is
placed under Monocotyledonidae or
monocot.

Observe from this table.
