What We Do

Add a little PURPLE to your world

Continuing Studies at Western specializes in adult learning. We understand the unique needs of adults and design all of
our courses and programs with those needs in mind. We know that one of the greatest challenges facing adults who want
to return to or continue learning is a fear of failure, and we go to great lengths to provide an environment that will enable
students to be successful, while at the same time challenging them to push their boundaries. Designing innovative, unique
and exciting programs, and choosing exceptional instructors who understand adult learning are the most important things
we do; this is what sets us apart as a leader in continuing education.

I feel more confident in my ability to provide coaching to individuals

to help them be their true self instead of always giving the answer
or advice – as a facilitator/trainer it’s easy to give advice or give the
answer, but this implies that I have all the answers about what works
and what doesn’t. When you give advice, you offer an individual
only two choices: take the advice, or ignore the advice. Coaching
gives people ownership through their own choices – they know the
situation, their emotions, their motivations.

It is very powerful to be able to touch someone’s life through

coaching, sometimes just by listening, or through powerful
questions to enable them to use their strengths as they make a
choice to move forward and take action. People genuinely want
to change – sometimes they just don’t know how – a coach like
approach is experiential because it’s about them.

Professional Certificate in Project Management

I have decided to take the Project Management course at Western

as I work towards writing my PMI certification. I was looking for a
course that would compliment the Architecture and Mechanical
Engineering that I have already acquired, as well as being a
universal tool to add to my resume, help market myself and be
beneficial to my future endeavors. The knowledge and experience
gained through this course would be an asset in my current place
of employment, as well as opening up opportunities in the future.

My experience with the Continuing Studies program here at

Western has made me wonder why I never went to University in
the first place. The people I have met in my classes come from
many different work backgrounds and offer a various range of
experience from beginner and individuals looking to get started, to
those who are experienced and are looking for that advancement
within their place of business. The instructors, too, have been very
knowledgeable of the topics at hand and have been able to share
many insightful stories of their experiences in the workforce.

System Requirements for Online Courses

Online Requirements
Online courses offer students the opportunity to schedule much of their class work at times that are convenient to them.
Online courses also reduce the number of trips to the classroom and the library by incorporating the lecture and class
discussions into web pages and chat rooms.

Online or Web Enhanced Symbols

ONLINE – offered completely online; participants require access to the Internet.

WEB ENHANCED – a combination of both classroom and online formats; participants require access to the
Internet.

Recommended System Requirements

Just as you would prepare yourself for a face-to-face course, preparing your computer for online learning is
your responsibility. You will require an Internet connection and are responsible for the cost of arranging the
connection. Both dial-up and high-speed Internet connections are supported by WebCT-OWL. However, the
increasing sophistication of web-based resources means that it may take more time to access WebCT-OWL over
a dial-up connection. Please take this into consideration when choosing your Internet connection. Also, your
instructor may have hardware or software requirements specific to your course; please refer to the course outline.

A complete list of system requirements is available online at http://webct.uwo.ca. As well as minimum system
requirements, WebCT-OWL requires the Sun Java Virtual Machine (Sun JVM) to be installed on your computer.
Depending on the Internet browser you choose, some browser settings may need to be adjusted for maximum
functionality. For more details on browser settings and learning with WebCT-OWL, visit http://webct.uwo.ca.
