Journal 01

Time period: 10th February, 2019 to 16th February, 2019

Assigned job responsibilities:


I have recently joined as an intern at South Bangla Agriculture and Commerce Bank Limited at
the Bashundhara Mahila Branch. On my first day, I was assigned to the customer service
department under a supervisor. During my first week my supervisor informed me about all the
types of bank accounts and showed me an account opening form. She also showed me some old
account opening forms and told me to remember how they fill-up the customer’s personal
information, account information, nominee information, transaction profile and profile. She also
asked me to write some vouchers. I did not know how to write vouchers and she helped me with
those. I was also assigned to help the potential clients with their account opening form and let
them know of the documents necessary to open an account. I also gave entries of cheque books
and ATM cards and also I had to make a list of undelivered cheque books and ATM cards. Later
my supervisor asked me to call the clients who did not receive their cheque books yet to notify
them that their books are ready. I have also written some deal books, given entries in the inward
book. I have also learned how to scan documents and photos and how to give entries in the bank’s
software.

I observed that every employee has a target to fulfill and for that they do some sort of
marketing while doing their regular job activities. I learned some techniques from  the
employees through which they motivate their potential clients to open a bank account.
Observation:
While working in this branch, I had observed that this office is always busy. Many clients come
to check their accounts. My supervisor told me that it was this office’s responsibility to manage
the salary transactions of many other offices employees. I then realized it was other employees not
clients who came here to check their salary accounts and deposit money. I have also been able to
observe that there were some regular customers who do transactions almost every day and
everyone knows them – their name to their account number. The environment of this branch is
very friendly. They are also very welcoming. Even though I am an intern here, all the employees
have shown a friendly and respectful attitude towards me.

Notable Incidents:
However, one difficulty that I faced was that customers sometimes do not want to fill up the forms
by themselves. They consider it as a hassle and force the employees for doing the work. This
lengthens the process as employees are also required to enter the client information online.
